This series of products using hard aluminum alloy material shell; Hall-type non-contact technology, P3022 series angle sensor has the advantages of non-contact angle sensor, and the use of high-quality imported high quality stainless steel high speed bearing member, so that it reduced frictional resistance when measuring the minimum, not because of the wear surface measurement component caused decrease measurement accuracy, long service life theoretically unlimited

Description of P3022 series product:

P3022 series of miniature non-contact angle sensor works through the principle of electromagnetic induction, the angle is converted to an electrical signal. When the rotation angle of the object passed to the axis of rotation sensors, P3022 angle sensor outputs an electrical signal that is proportional to the rotational angle.

I got this to play around with it. It's very simple to use. Put 5 V on the power pin VCC with the negative terminal to GND, then you'll get an analog output voltage from 0-5 V on the OUT pin. This is very much like a potentiometer in behavior, if you put 5 V across the two outer terminals, and took the output off the wiper. However, I think this is superior for a few reasons (I'm guessing on a few of these)...1. You can probably spin this faster than any practical potentiometer with a wiper.2. It probably lasts longer (more total rotations)3. Most potentiometers don't spin around 360 degrees; they have stops at each end.4. I think the action around the transition from 5 V to 0 V, which happens at a specific angle of rotation, is smoother than any potentiometer would be.In general this sensor is very well built. Materials look to be high quality, the feel of the shaft as you spin it with your fingers is extremely smooth. It's not cheap, but I think it's worth the price.

I replaced the hall effect based foot pedal speed controller for a 550w variable speed dc sewing machine motor with this item. So far, it’s worked out well even if it is a bit overkill for my usage. To be clear, even the models with narrower sensing angle ranges (90, 180, 270) do not have physical stops and can spin freely 360 degrees. If you’re wanting a direct mimic of a typical potentiometer, you’ll need to plan to make your own stops. The shaft of the position sensor is 6mm, however, so finding off the shelf knobs isn’t difficult.

Does exactly what it claims.Smooth, precise. If you have a 0-5Volt application, this may work for you. It is not however a direct replacement for a normal potentiometer as it is voltage output not a resistive radiometric output. So long as you are aware of the difference and don't exceed its voltage you'll be good to go.I'll be using mine to determine absolute angle measurement for setting lathe taper cutting. Its a high quality part, reflected in the high price point.

I'm using this encoder to monitor the absolute position of a door that controls air flow to a wood stove. My application is low speed and I only read the encoder when the door is stationary. In this mode of operation I find the encoder is very repeatable. It is performing according to specification. I would recommend this encoder.

Strong built, for extensive and hard job. I used it for a Motorcycle power valve position, it works very well.

Using this to create an analog output matching rotational angle of a "throttle grip" for a motorcycle lamp project. Regular potentiometers wear over time, and this one has very good bearings installed for smooth actuation and some angular control over the shaft, and I didn't mind spending the extra $ to have this component "last forever". The program is on an Arduino and I used a standard pot to gain the functions I needed while this was being shipped. This "dropped right in" as it's replacement and has been flawless in it's performance. I had to add "throttle stops" as this will freely rotate all the way around, scaling from 0-1023 smoothly and then immediately back to zero and starting again. This was expected, but it's good to know ahead of time. De coupling capacitors on the power supply further smooth out the output from this as the power supply and Arduino itself can introduce noise. I would definitely buy this again.

I used this to report shaft angular position on a robot scanning rotor.
