I did use the Rosen I already had. Used it on my hammered dulcimer, and it actually worked! Very cool little toy. And couldn't beat it for the price. The Rosen DOES need to be reapplied often (at least at first.)

I wasn't able to use this as proficiently as I had hoped. It takes a little work. If maybe I had some experience playing a bowed instrument, it might have been a little easier. First, make sure you resin up the bow well. You will get nothing if you don't have enough resin to get a grip on the strings. Resin it up really well. I found that bow pressure had a lot to do with the quality of the tone. Too much pressure makes a pretty screechy sound. A lighter touch worked quite a bit better for a purer tone. I also tried the two stings at once but angling it to hit both strings, but it didn't really sound great for me. Notice in the first video that the player uses the outside strings, that works best. I would guess with a lot of practice, you could get better as moving between strings, but probably not worth it for me personally. You can make some pretty nice sounding cello, viola, or violin type sounds. The thing you can't do is sustain a long note without quick back and forth bowing like in the video. The bow is simply too short to accomplish this. I also used this on an electric, and it worked pretty well. It is a solid body, so technique is different. I found I got the best tone very close to the bridge where the strings are more stable. You can experiment with overdrive and other effects and find some fun things. I don't know that I will ever be playing a song with this, but you could do some interesting fills and passages for home recording, or to accompany another instrument. Not going to use in some ways I had imagined, but it does work.

It’s a little hard to get the hang of it,after a few minutes of just getting a few squeaks out of it he put it away,I’m sure in time he’ll figure it out,he still likes it just going to take time.

I can see if you are creating special effects, especially looping, then this may come in handy. Granted, I am new with this bow, but I have been playing guitar for over 50 years (yeah, I am a 50s kid), but I could not make this bow do much of anything pleasant sounding for me... and I play a fiddle as well! The most I get is just a real jerking sound. It does play, when rosined, and if this is what sound you want, then go for it.It is double sided, and I find it fairly thick. Even though it is nice to play on/between two strings at once, it is hard to get a sound on just one string (if that is what you want), unless you are practiced and precise. No long bowing sound, unless you can control and play really really slow. I tried. Also, I am a finger picking guitarist, and the rosin does leave quite a bit of residue and sticky rosin dust on the strings. You really have to clean the strings well so you can do any serious finger picking after bowing.I think if you have a lightning fast left hand on the fretboard that will help too. Do some research for similar guitar bows, watch a few video examples of guitarists who know what they are doing. If this is the sound you are looking for, then this bow is for you.NOTE: In the headline for this product they are using the word "EBOW." This technically is not an Ebow. An Ebow is an electronic device used sort of as a handheld synthesizer. This is not electronic... it is well made, but, it is just a basically a bar/bow with bow hair.

The only negative is my lack of skill in using it, but that will come in time. It does what it advertises, and allows you to play your guitar strings as if they were the strings on a viola or cello. It sounds great!
