We recently had an ice storm forecast and that comes with power outages in our area almost like clockwork. I got several different emergency lights just incase. Sure enough, we had a power failure. This light instantly turned on providing backup lighting for us and letting us sort things out around the house and settle down without fuss.I wired the unit to use a normal 120V outlet so when the power failed it would automatically turn on. This has the advantage of not having to mount it and the ability to move it as a portable light if activated.Worked out well for us.

The GRUENLICH LED Emergency Light with Battery Backup is a simple, inexpensive, and easy to install emergency light that works as stated. It comes with mounting hardware, a couple of wire nuts, and very good instructions. This was installed in a cellar, mounted on a 3 1/2" octagon box since there's very little space for wiring inside the light fixture. There are also knockouts for a 4" octagon box, and for surface mounting out the top of the fixture using flexible conduit as well. The light output is better than expected, and easily provides adequate light for egress across a wide area.My only problem is that when I try to push the test button the top of the light comes unclipped from the base. If I hold the light and push the button it's fine, but when you push it from below it pops right off. I'll have to use a stepladder to hold the light to test it.I haven't tested to see how long it will work after a power failure. It is UL and cUL listed, so it should work for 90 minutes as stated. It looks like a good fixture, it works as it should, and maybe I got the only one with this issue, I don't know.

The unit is well built enough considering the price, and the lights have some rotation and angle adjustability. The lights are also surprisingly bright, easily illuminating anything within at least a 50 foot radiusA sticking point may eventually prove to be long term reliability. The battery promises "at least 90 minutes" of illumination, and any cheap LEDs nowadays make lofty claism of life spans in the thousands of hours. The unit does not come with a grounding wire connection though, which is a mark against it as far as I'm concerned, and I've rated it with that in mind

This emergency light is a fantastic part of your emergency preparedness. For me, I wanted an extra light in my garage where I keep my generator, so I have plently of light to see it and get it hooked up during a power outage. This throws more than enough light to accomplish what I need to do, and isn't too hideous to look at otherwise. I appreciate that it automatically comes on when the power goes out, and I imagine it will come in handy this winter!

This emergency light replaced an older non-functioning light. This unit is about half the size of the older unit, but uses LED lamps instead of incandescent lamps. The installation was simple, just shutting down the power, connecting the new wires and attaching the new light to the wall. Initially I could tell that the lights weren’t as bright as the original lamp, but testing it in a hallway with no power, the Gruenlich provides adequate light to navigate the hallway.
