After firing it up I only had to wait seconds before the smoke came off the iron (normal the first use) and I was able to make a repair in a matter of a minute, literally. The fact that it comes with all the needed materials is a bonus, the digital display is great to have, and being able to control the heat to the iron head easily is nice as well. Don't be left in the smoke...Buy one now!!

First one worked for exactly zero seconds..doa. Amazon sent me another one, and it functions, but one of the led segments displaying temperature doesn't work. That said, at least the second one powered on.I didn't return because it will be infrequently used to smooth 3d prints. I can make out the temperature even with the missing segment.Changing tips is easy. Heats up in an ok amount of time. I used it at the lower end of the temp scale, and it took 2-3 minutes to heat.Might have given 3 or 4 stars for usefulnessand included items, but 2 out of 2 items had issues. Quality is poor.

This is a nice plastic welder. I like that I can control the heat and the ends are removable way better than the harbor freight one perfect for fixing plastics on ATVs.

I submitted a nice review for this plastic welder, but Amazon rejected it for some unknown reason, so I'll try again. This is a nice plastic welder, with handy adjustable temperature. It has lots of accessories including an assortment of plastic filler rods and several pieces of wire mesh to melt into your plastic repair. I used it to patch my old plastic wheelbarrow that was cracking. I used it for 2 hours non-stop the very first time, so it seems plenty durable. It takes a little bit of practice to get the feel for melting the wire into your repair and then smoothing the plastic over it but it's easy to use. It worked well, and I recommend this product. In my opinion it's a good deal for everything you get in this kit.

i have practiced with this kit for about an hour and it worked well. I think these iron type of plastic welders, 'soldering iron' with a different tip, are best for thinner plastics. I used it on a 5 gal bucket at its power was about perfect for that thickness on high. For the price point I would definitely by this kit again. lots of accessories included.

UPDATE: I exchanged the product for one that wasn't defective as shown in the photo, and it's a bit brighter as well but still difficult to decipher in bright light. As I'd hoped, the variable temperature is a useful feature, but it's trial-and-error for the user, because there's no guidance given regarding the target temperatures for different plastic types. To that end, the included plastic rods aren't labeled for type as they have been in other kits I've acquired. Finally, the strain relief popped off the end of the replacement tool as shown in the newly added photo. Overall, the idea of adjustable temperature is a good one, but quality isn't overwhelming.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Unfortunately this toolβs display is too dim to view in daylight, and once I got it someplace darker it was apparent that some of the display segments were also not functioning. I donβt know if it would be brighter overall if it werenβt a dud, but between these two problems Iβm left to guess what the temperature is, and temperature is the reason I acquired this.Iβve made three other plastic welder purchases in the past, with mixed results, but the one thing that was always clear is that variable temperature would be a huge plus. Whatβs good about the kit is how small the iron is and how many tips it comes with β also notably smaller than the previous irons Iβve gotten, both with fixed and interchangeable heads/tips.
