I can only guess that any legitimate 4- and 5-star reviews for this product are from people who used the tool for a few minutes, mended one plastic item and then put the tool away. If you’re looking for a one-use fix-it tool for a broken piece of plastic, this might meet your expectations. However, if you’re looking for a tool that won’t die after one or two uses, this tool is a total dud.I ordered this product to fix a few cracked plastic items. It heated up in a few minutes, was easy to handle and worked quite well. Unfortunately, as seems to be the case with many brands of these so-called “plastic welding” soldering irons, THE TOOL SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING AFTER BEING PLUGGED IN FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. The power light continued to glow, but the tip remained stone-cold. I unplugged the tool, let it “rest” for a while and tried again. Nothing, nada, zilch. This product seems to have a serious design flaw which burns out the internal parts in very short order. Obviously, once the heating function stops working, it is completely useless for plastic welding; and sadly, it’s not even attractive enough to be a paperweight.I got this for about $13 on a lightning deal. If I had to put a value on it, I would say it was worth about 13 CENTS because it did actually fix two plastic cracks before it died. I returned it to Amazon the day after it arrived and got a Weller 140W/100W soldering gun. The Weller isn’t as “elegant” for plastic welding as this product would be if it lasted longer than an hour, but the Weller works fine and had no trouble working past the one-hour mark. (From videos I’ve seen, people are still using Weller soldering guns they bought 40 years ago.)If you have more than one small item to plastic-weld, I would urge you not to waste your money, time and energy on this short-lived tool.1 star.

This tool is great. The garden tractor took a direct hit from a rock and was in peices. It looks almost new again. Car bumper looking good also.

Plastic welding is tedious and messy, but that's not the fault of this product. I fixed my blue box recycling bin that had a number of breaks close to one corner. I used steel wool instead of the mesh that came with the kit. The result was ugly but functional. Can't expect more. I had a plastic garbage can that I was also hoping to fix, but it was so broken and split in many places that I decided, even with this welder, it would be more tedious work than was worth it.

Heats up fast and is easy to use. Kit includes all items required to fix most plastic breaks. I was able to successfully fix a broken piece on my snow blower with very little plastic welding experience. I find this to be a great kit for at home repair and mine has already payed for itself. For $33 at the time of my review I would recommend.

I think this might have been my fault. I leave it hanging in my office as the stand is not very good. My kid turned it on, after about 30 minutes the handle melted on me. It's pretty good but don't leave it on for extended periods of time and it should be alright.I gave it 3 stars for durability. I may order a different model with a more heat resistant handle.

Has enough power for medium duty jobs like alternator repair but if you can spend a few $ more the higher power irons ( 135 watt or higher ) will speed up any soldering /de-soldering jobs you are likely to have. I know it says plastic welder but it is definitely hot enough for soldering jobs. Lighter duty pencil irons like 25,35 watts are useless for anything other than very small jobs.

I used this to repair the water tank on an older rugdocter machine, it worked just fine. The accessories included were very helpful in the process.

Does everything it says it will do, have repaired everything from a cracked plastic grass clipping chute on my cub cadet riding mower to a busted-up dash panel on an 2004 monte carlo, and a dozen other items, so far have saved about 1000.00 from purchases vs repairs. great tool would by it again, heats quickly. Only improvement would be that the flat blade does not heat quick enough and instead I use a solder iron style of flat blade sold separately plugs into 110v works better and after the wire is imbedded with the gun one can smooth out the plastic with a hot flat blade if needed. turns out super strong with wire imbedded, much better than just melting plastic together.

i just needed to melt some plastic, but this is super good! it goes above and beyond! it gets hot enough to melt plastic. you need to be cautious with kids and cats around, as the stand isn't really solide, so it would be easy to yank it around and hurts someone. it heats up fast enough, but takes a while to cool down. the diversity of tip to use is great too! I'm happy to have it on hand, it's nice to have it for a bunch of small diy and house keep up.

It is extremely easy to use. It takes a few minutes to heat up. But once heated. It stays at temp. It seems pretty high quality for the price I paid. It comes with alot of rods. Of different kinds. And it performs amazingly. My only issue is with the stand. It had a little metal stand. And it will get just as hot. As the device does. So set it on something that won't melt or burn
