CNC bits on this site can be a mixed bag. I've had a lot of problems on our Shopbot Buddy using some of the... let's be kind and say... "value" brands here. Many of the cheap bits do VERY poorly even on thin plywood, leaving those awful furry edges that everyone hates. Not this bit. While it's a bit shorter than some of those cheap bits in terms of length, the cut quality was night and day. Cuts through plywood without leaving a lot of cleanup and I was even able to use the same tool settings I used for my other 1/8 inch end mills so it was an easy swap. Freud may not have the selection and prestige of Amana, but these bits are no joke. They're not the cheapest - but they will do the job well.

I *might* attribute this to operator error, but I was running a 5/8" deep cut for 3". 5/8" is about as deep as you can get with this bit. After 2", the bit snapped off right at the top of the thin section. (ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES!) When I pulled the cutting portion out, it was pretty damn hot.So, don't rush a deep cut. Take it slow. And wear safety goggles!

Used with a CNC router to cut thick MDF. It did a great job and a nice edge finish.

I consider Freud to be one of the higher quality bits available, and they were the only manufacturer I could find that offered a 1/4 wide bit that was 1 + 1/2 inches long. But 1 + 1/2 inches long is just too long for a bit that is this thin. I tried two of them, and they both broke instantly when I tried to use them. I have many many bits and do a fair amount of router work, so yes, I do know how to use a bit properly. I was trying to clean up slots in some 1 + 1/2 inch thick stop blocks that I was making for my table sled, and even though I pre drilled the slots with drill press at slightly less than 1/4, and drilled a starter hole that was a full 1/4 or more, there is just too much lateral pressure against the bit when trying to use it. Now I see why none of the other manufacturers even try to offer a bit this size.... it just doesn't work. I don't blame the manufacturer, I don't blame the quality of the bit. This size just doesn't work. I have gone to another Freud bit - a 1/4 diameter by 1 inch double flute, and simply run the bit through the slot, then flip it over and run it again from the other side. This works. So.... don't spend your money or your time trying to use this bit, but use the shorter bit that can handle the lateral forces.

It's exactly as it is listed so I'll give it high marks. But it's not so easy to use free hand. I'm using it to trim out the corners on picture frames after rabbiting out the back. It's so small I had a hard time seeing what was shadow on the bit and the cut line. I'll go back to the 1/4" going forward. It's probably fine to use on a table but go slow. It's small and single flute.

The 1/8" single flute straight bit is a quality tool bit. Very good quality and performed the task I set out to accomplish. Would recommend this bit to any woodworker needing one. The plastic storage case is a nice touch.

I've built a cnc router table for hobby projects. I power the cutting device with a Porter Cable router. I bought this bit and another from Freud to cut MDF parts and solid-wood gifts. This bit has performed perfectly in solid-oak, mdf, and even nylon sheets! I recommend this bit quite highly!
