I recently purchased the Fowler 72-641-300-0 Flex Arm Base and Indicator Combo, and it has exceeded my expectations for precision measurement tools. Here's a detailed breakdown of my experience:### Magnetic BaseThe Flex-Arm magnetic base is extremely powerful with an 85 lb pull, which provides a stable hold on both flat and round surfaces thanks to the V-base design. I found that this ensures the tool stays securely in place even during delicate measurement tasks. The on-off lever magnet is easy to operate, making it quick to reposition without struggling.### Flexibility and DurabilityThe arm itself is highly flexible, allowing me to position it precisely where needed, and it stays locked in place once adjusted. Whether I'm working in tight spaces or needing to hold the indicator at awkward angles, the arm holds firm without any wobble, which is a huge advantage for maintaining accuracy.### Dial Indicator PerformanceThe included dial indicator has a 1-inch travel with a 2-1/4 inch face, offering easy-to-read measurements down to 0.001". It also features continuous reading from 0-100, a revolution counter, and tolerance markers, which have been extremely useful when monitoring repeated measurements. The precision of this dial is spot-on, and it's become a go-to tool for precision alignment and inspection.### Ease of UseI found the tool setup straightforward, and the user-friendly design makes it suitable for both beginners and experienced machinists. The flexibility of the arm coupled with the strong magnetic base makes this combo perfect for a wide variety of measurement tasks, especially where precision is key.### Overall ValueAt around $130, this set offers solid value for the quality and precision it delivers. The combination of a sturdy, reliable base and a highly accurate indicator makes it a worthwhile investment for anyone in need of precise measurement tools for machining or automotive work.In summary, the Fowler Flex Arm Base and Indicator Combo is a great addition to my toolset, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality measurement solution.

I used mine today for the first time and I got 1 side of my car done. 3rd rotor, the magnet would not stay stuck to anything in that section, finally slid down the swing arm, fell and broke the gauge. I think I would make a better mount and arm with the erector set I had when I was 12. Modify that magnetic block, pur some brackets with holes on it so when the magnetic does not attach well we can use some large zip ties to secure it. Now I have a useless paperweight and I am quite disappointed. Bought it last year so no returns for me.

Magnetic base is very strong and dial indicator seems to be good quality. Overall very happy with my purchase. The arm for the dial can pretty much be positioned into any position needed. Other than the seller ALWAYS changing the price around this is a great item and I have no complaints.

Pretty good quality. The red tightening lever fell on mine from continuous hard use, so instead I just use an allen wrench as a knob now. Besides that this is a great tool.

This is a great dial and flex arm base. When I first received the dial in the mail, I thought it didn't work. No matter how I positioned it, and locked the lever, the flex arm would not hold in place. Turns out, there is a tension adjustment screw at the end of the arm that can be tightened or loosened to adjust firmness. I assume that in most cases they come this way, and simply need to be tightened at first use. After figuring that out, I shortly put it to use in the machine shop. The dial seems to work just fine, and with a little bit of adjustment you can get the flex arm just about however you need to. Is it the top of the line dial or base? No. But does it do a fine job and is it very handy? Absolutely. you don't always need the Mercedes Benz of equipment – and sometimes you may not want that for a certain job!I'm very pleased with this product, and for the price I think it's a steal.

I am happy with it's versatility and quality. I do wish it was just slightly more firm when it locked. However. that's small potatoes.

Was a bit skeptical about the flex arm and if it would hold up. After receiving it and using I have to say the arm is very sturdy and holds up well. So far the magnetic base seems to be quite strong.

This indicator holder works pretty well, but I had to play around with the tension on the flex shaft to get it right. Once you get it tight enough it wont sag or creep on you when using it at most angles. I did discover that the flex arm makes it difficult to use in a cramped space since you can't position the indicator too close to the base. This is due to bending radius of the flex shaft. The mag base is pretty standard and works just fine with ground surfaces on the bottom and back.

I really like this indicator. One of the features that I discovered after receiving the item was that the magnetic base has a switch that releases the magnetic force from the mounting object. This keeps you from prying it off and possibly smacking it against another object. Other than that, it's a there's not much to say. It works smooth and I would certainly be likely to try other fowler stuff. The case is a bit cheesy but I can live with that.
