The Fowler 54-646-401-0 X-Tender-E Electronic Dial Bore Gage Set has a measuring range of 1.4 to 6" and resolution of 0.00005"/.001mm. A minimum hold feature locks on the bore size as this direct-measuring gage is rocked within the part to be measured. The electronic indicator provides both inch or metric readings. A two-point contact system is used to detect geometry problems such as ovality and taper, and carbide-tipped contact points provide extended wear and improved abrasion resistance. The gage is self-centering and includes an extension holder. This product has 1 year warranty offered by Fowler High Precision. If you experience any problem contact Fowler directly for warranty claims. Bore gages measure holes, or bores, in a workpiece. They can measure the interior diameter of a hole at any depth, while internal micrometers can only measure to the depth of their teeth. Bore gages are typically calibrated with a setting ring and come in two types: simple and direct-measuring. Simple bore gages are used with a caliper to transfer the hole measurement, while the more complex gauges take the measurement directly, and display it through a vernier, dial, or digital display. Bore gages have a two- or three-point contact, indicating how many points on the gage head touch the inside of the bore. Two-point contacts are better at measuring ovality, while three-point contacts are used to measure lobing or triangular form error. Pistol-grip bore gages are used for fast, single-handed operation with repeatable results from one operator to another. Bore gages can also be used in special applications, such as measuring threads, spline pitch diameters, and deep bores. Fowler, an American company, manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and micrometers. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.

It does what I want but not as easily as I had hoped. No directions but what's on utube. I wanted to just run it in and look at the indicator and have it tell me the ID. But it's not quite set up to do that unless I don't know how to access that feature as the difficulty of operational features.I do portable lineboring and getting to withen .001 tolerance is critical and challenging with the tools and equipment designed for lineboring.

Not very easy to setup but there is a old video on YouTube on setup and calibration. The included instructions are pretty much useless. The tool itself is good quality and does it's job with repeatable results. A set of snap gauges would do just aswell in my opinion though.

Someone asked if the digital indicator was removable for use with a stand. It is removable and is a fairly standard gage, however it does not have a mounting lug on the back. It is just a straight cover plate. You can replace the plate with another that has a lug.

The specific accuracy of this gauge is not listed anywhere, so I have attached a picture of the actual certificate that came with the gauge. So the resolution here is useless. Not sure what the point of 0.00005" resolution is good for with a listed accuracy of 0.0006" and repeatibility of 0.0004".

If you are just learning it took me some time to figure it out. I couldn't find much help on line for a analog gauge either. You also need some other form of measurment to get your tool into calibration.
