not sure i'll be keeping this, for all of the reasons others have already pointed out. higher end tools have been on my wish list for some time now. thought i'd give this one a try. this is a posterchild of cutting corners to hit a price point.

Come with molded plastic box, everything secured inside. Good measuring range from 2" -4 ".Very handy for tight space accurate measuring where can not put in vernier caliper.

I'll admit to not having setup a bore gauge before. I've used them, but only after someone else put it together. That's my qualifier for, "Maybe this is normal but I'd rather use a caliper".Firstly, the case itself, as well as the "dust cap" seem very ill conceived. The dust cap is basically useless. If you use it for anything at all, you should just use it just for transport, but the dust cap has tiny little Phillips screws so you need an eyeglass screwdriver to add or remove it.The tool can not be assembled with the dust cap and stored in the molded plastic case. You must remove the dial indicator and dust cap to fit it in the case. But of course you can't use the tool with the dust cap installed.Once you get beyond all that, you soon realize this bore gauge only has 0.250" of travel. Which is so say, if you want to measure something that is 2.5" diameter, you have to put the 2.6" adaptor, plus these tiny little washers to make up for the missing math. The washers will easily fall out of the case and render the tool unusable in most instances. The case, if upturned, will release all of it's contents. So really just be sure to store it face-up, and only carry it face up.The only realistic way I can see this tool being useful to a machinist or quality inspector, is if they just have to inspect one size hole all day every day. If you find all the right little bits, and get it all setup correctly, this could be useful. Setting this up could easily take 30min, and assumes you have a caliper and micrometer set at the ready.
