this device is a must have for fishing makes the task of replacing the line in your reel so much easier. works with both spinning and bait caster reels and fits in most bags. price is great too. attaches directly to the fishing rod and the tension is adjustable. easy to just throw in your bag and be ready for whatever the day brings. 5 stars

The "Pristis Fishing Line Winder" is a unique approach to line changing that offers a lot less bulk than some other solutions I have found. As such, it would be good to throw into a fishing bag or pack if you tend to change line on the fly. I was very hopeful that I could use it to change fly lines, but alas the middle spindle is too thick to go into the hole on plastic fly line spools. It likely would be OK with the new recyclable cardboard spools, and making the centre on those on the go would be much easier. As for the operation of the thing itself, it seems to reel very smoothly. The adjustable "drag" on the thing seems to be very finicky, going from loose with zero tension through a few turns and then in fractions of a turn goes from super loose to demonically tight. To get it adjusted "right" I was adjusting it minutely, and kept going back and forth between too tight and too loose several frustrating times. Is it a better solution than the Berkely $10 spool holder, as it is a one way only tool, whereas with this you can take off and put back on using the same single tool along with your rod and reel. Just doesn't really feel like it warrants the $50 CDN price tag due to it's thin plastic construction, inability to deal with fly line spools, and he finicky drag adjustment

Make sure to read the instructions. It will save you a lot of time.Once everything gets setup, it saves a lot of heads. Simply reel in the line until it’s full!No more stick through Crocks!

This line spooler is actually one of the nicest ones I have had a pleasure of using. it works very well for both loading line onto a new reel, as well as unloading old line from a reel. my only complaint is that it was too large and heavy to use on my small lightweight Ice fishing poles, but that is not a negative for the product just an opportunity for the manufacturer to make a smaller version for that purpose. I really enjoy this line spooler, and I plan on using it for many years and it has found a place on my tool bench for easy access what was once a tedious job is now quick and easy.

while I have a bench mounted line spooler, this spooler had the possibility of being portable allowing spooling of your reel while on a fishing trip for that reason I ordered it out to review. Here is my review.pros:1. is is made of plastic but it is solid and seems like it is sturdy enough to do the job.2. it has the ability to both unspool and to spool a reel something my bench model doesn't have. This is a real advantage when it comes time to change out your line. instead of wrapping it around your hand or a can or stick you can place an empty spool on the spooler and use the hand crank to wind the line back on the spool3. it does clamp to the pole and holds the line spool so you do not need another person holding the spool of line.cons:1. the one big con I had was I could not adjust the tension tight enough to properly spool a reel. At first I thought the spool of line I had might be the problem and the hole might be to large to properly tighten but after switching to a different brand of line I had the same problem. I can only conclude that the problem lies with the Pristis reel spooler. It appears the fitting is to small in diameter and/or is made of to hard of material so effectively apply enough tension to the line spool which is a big proplem2. the other issue was, it will only take the smaller spools of 100yds or so not any larger ones of 300-600yds. this would not have been big issue if you know going into it so you only purchase the smaller spoolsconclusion: I will use this as a line winder to remove line from my reels where the tension is set on the reel but I will not be able to use it to spool my reels since the tension is almost free spin,. For that reason I can not recommend it as a reel spooler only as a means to remove the line from your reel

I've tried 2 other types of these line spoolers and this one is by far the best and easiest. Load it, clamp it on to the rod, adjust the tensioner, then start cranking the reel.I don't have a rod right now for the reel I was loading so I just grabbed the first section of a surf caster rod to use for this. Now that rod is pretty thick compared to a normal bass rod but I didn't think it was too bad. However, the part of this device that clamps onto the rod was barely able to open far enough to clamp on to it and was hanging on by just a few turns of the threads. I thought this was a little ridiculous because I think it ought to have been able to handle it better. Anyway, so the grip on the rod wasn't firm but good enough to get by.The first line spooler they sent me had the giant plastic bolt that the whole thing depends on sheared cleanly in two. They sent me a replacement and the whole time I'm torquing on that bolt I keep expecting the thing to snap in two as you can end up having to torque the various parts pretty severely while in use. I finally got it adjusted properly and all went smoothly. This whole thing is completely made of plastic so how long it will last I couldn't guess. Even so, this tool worked great and if it broke I would probably get another one.
