How To Remove A Tick

If you have a tick, it's important to remove it properly. On small nymph sized ticks use our fine-tipped tweezers. On larger sized ticks use our forked end to scoop out the tick. On smaller ticks grasp the part of the tick that's closest to your skin with the tweezers. You want to grab the head, not the belly. Squeezing the belly will force the tick to regurgitate back into your bloodstream. On larger ticks use our forked end and wedge the tick neck/head in the fork.

Slowly pull the tick straight out. NEVER twist the tick on removal as that could cause parts to break off and be left behind. If a tick part gets left behind, use the tweezers to extract any remaining visible pieces. The goal is to remove the entire tick. Wash the bite with soap and warm water. Use the included tick identifier card to verify the type of tick for future reference, Never use your fingers, a lit match, nail polish, petroleum jelly, or other topical agents in attempted tick removals. This could irritate the tick and cause regurgitation.

Be Prepared And Keep A Couple Handy: Be ready in case you find a tick hosting where it shouldn't be. Keep one handy in your first aid kit, backpack, glove box or wherever you would like to keep yours.

Prevent The Spread Of Infectious Lyme Disease: Tick related illnesses such as Lyme disease are on the rise and currently cause for great concern. Lyme disease is one of the fastest growing preventive measure undertakings in the USA at the moment.

REMOVE TICKS PROMPTLY: In most cases a tick must be attached 36-48 hrs. before Lyme disease bacteria can be transmitted. Quick and proper removal is crucial for the precautionary measure to be effective.

Nymph Ticks, Biggest Threat: It's the small immature ticks called nymphs that cause the greatest concern. They are tiny and hard to see. Only sharp pointed tweezers should be used to grasp the tiny ticks as close to the skin as possible. NEVER use regular household tweezers.

Engorged Ticks, Fat And Juicy: Extraction of engorged ticks is easiest using the forked end of the instrument by sliding under as close to skin as possible then steady lift up. If any tiny pieces remain, use fine tipped tweezer end to remove the rest. Wash with soap/water or alcohol.

Proper Instruments Are Required: Never use regular tweezers as you might squeeze the tick body. It's highly advised by the CDC to never squeeze or grab a tick by the body. Save those regular tweezers for slivers and eyebrow plucking.

See Your Doctor: If after a tick bite you see red bullseye or feel flu like symptoms, see your physician immediately. These are the early symptoms of Lyme disease. If treated early, recovery is quick.

I was very happy with the quality of this tick remover. This has been an especially bad year for ticks and this should make removal a lot easier.

Nice tool. Handy if only one or two ticks to remove. Not so handy on a dog or two dogs with multiple ticks as the tool folds into itself and that makes it awkward to use and difficult to hold if more than 1 or 2 ticks to deal with. Otherwise, it does the job well.

Much more durable and will likely last a lifetime as opposed the cheap plastic versions. You get what you pay for and these work just fine.

Love this tick tweezer, I go to P. A. alot, so I think these will come in handy. There's a sheet so you can identify the different kinds of ticks, which will come in handy. Come's in it's own little black case(very cute). I put it in my purse already, just in case I'll need to use it.

I find it very useful to remove ticks from the dogs. In the meanwhile I bought 3 more, 2 for friends, 1 for the ticks that sometimes are on us, humans.

I have been using it for a while on my dogs and it is fantastic!. I can remove ticks easily every time we go to the mountain for my running training. For dog's ears is also very convenient. We are happy to have this tool with us.
