I read that this type of tool invented in France was the optimum way to remove ticks. We live in a highly infested tick area. We trap, neuter and release feral cats. They often have ticks. I got these for them. That idea was not well received by the cats. It takes too much time to dig through cat hair to find the tick’s auger head and engage it then twist the tool to remove the tick. Now if the tick is visible on the shorter facial hair, I was able to use the tool to more quickly engage the tool as the cat pulled away.

I live in an area that has a lot of ticks. I had Lyme disease before and never want to experience that again so I check for ticks every day and I got this tool to help remove them. It is a little more difficult to use for pets because of their fur, but it still works. As most other reviews have said, I also was sent the wrong color. I ordered pink and got blue instead.

Haven’t used it yet, bought it to keep on hand. I ordered blue but received pink, my least fave color next to lime green :/ an experience to push me not to care about colors. Material feels good

This is a great little set for getting ticks off dogs. My dog doesn't normally get ticks, but she got one recently. I was not quite sure how to get it out because I knew that it should be removed entirely, and the mouth should not be left behind as can sometimes happen if not done properly. I saw this and ordered it. It makes tick removal so easy once one gets over feeling squeamish. The instructions are very clear on how to do it, and it works well. I like that there are three different sizes and can be used for larvae as well as adult ticks and it gets the entire insect out. That the tick removers come in a container to store them is an added bonus because they are small and can get easily misplaced. Good set.

THIS IS HOW EASY IT IS NOW:I have to admit, it never occurred to me to twist the tick's jaws to pry them open. But that is what the instructions say with these tick remover tools. It works. The tick came right off. I slid the two-tine fork around the tick's jaws. One tine above the jaw, one tine below the jaw. I spun the tool 360 degrees around. The tick came right off. No stress. No tugging. No bleeding. The tick's jaws just slid apart. Twisting forced one side of the mandible up and the other side down. Then the dog's skin could slide right out. It's ingenious! There are three sizes of tools. Very small (like for baby deer ticks), medium, and large (like for big dog ticks). I usually find the big dog ticks on the dog, so I use that one the most. But when I pull invasive weeds out of the forest, sometimes I'll find a medium tick on me. So it's nice to have a variety of sizes. These fork are so small, they would be easy to lose. I like that they come with a plastic board to snap them into. That way they are easier to find and harder to lose. They won't disappear up the vacuum if they are on the board.THIS IS THE HORROR I WENT THROUGH BEFORE I GOT THE TOOLS: (Warning: Not for the squeamish.)I used to have a tick remover tool. My young dog grabbed it off the counter-top and started chewing on it. The plastic tweezers were shredded. So I tried to find something else to pull the tick out. I tried combing it out with a flea and tick comb. The ticks body just slid between the the teeth of the comb. I tried regular tweezers, but they just squished the tick and slid down the body, squishing the body flat as it slid. The tick must have died, but the jaws remained clamped shut. I figured I was going to have to pull it out by hand, but I didn't want to touch it. I got some paper towels and tried to pull it out between the sheets of paper towel. The body of the tick just squirted out all over the paper towels. It was so gross! It would not come out. This empty deflated tick body was hanging from jaws that were clamped tight in my dog's skin. I got desperate. I figured I was going to have to use my fingernails and fingers to pry it and pull it out. I picked at the head with my bare fingernails and clasped the body with my finger-tips and pulled on it. It pulled my dogs skin THREE INCHES OUT, before it finally snapped off of the skin and separated from her body. It was so gross, but at least it was out. I checked the wound. It bled a tiny bit, but the tick head was out. I dabbed some antibiotic jelly on the cut and comforted my dog.CONCLUSION:I never wanted my dog (or me) to go through that again. So I ordered this tick remover set immediately. It is so easy now! Just rotate the fork around the axis of the tool and the tick's jaws pop open! The tick is still alive. I dumped it in the toilet, to let it drown, a more gentle death than being squished to death. It's a nasty task. But this tool makes it so much easier and gentler for both you and your dog. Removing the tick cleanly, without tearing the dog's skin, is safer for the dog.5 STARS!

I don't know why they allow you to choose which color you want because I picked orange and received blue. Seems that a lot of people get a random color, regardless of what they select. Aside from that slight annoyance, it's a compact and handy little tick removal tool set. Super small and light weight, so it's easy to take with you on outings. My primary reason for getting this is to remove ticks from my dog. She just recently had one on her head (before getting this kit) which was extremely difficult to remove with tweezers. My sister then told me about this and says it works really well. Great! I'll be ready for the next tick.Even though it's called a tick "twister", my impulse would've been to use it as a little tick pry bar because it reminds of the shape of car trim cap pullers. Fortunately, it shows you right on the box and also on the back of the kit itself how to get under the tick and then *twist* it off.
