Upon receipt of the viola C string, I put it on my viola and played with it for a week. I had a feeling the string was "dead" or defective because it would not hold a pitch. I then took my instrument to a luthier for another service, and he commented that the string was indeed dead. I contacted Brook Mays, whose policy on Amazon still only states that guitar strings are non-refundable. Nowhere does it state anything about other strings — other than an email in which the customer service representative from Brook Mays copy/pasted the policy language and delete the word “guitar.” The customer service rep also insisted that I should be able to just look at a string and tell if it is defective, which is preposterous to anyone with knowledge of string instruments. After several days of back and forth via email, Brook Mays is still refusing my refund request and insisting that I should have been able to look at the string and tell if it was defective.I have ordered viola strings before from several different vendors and always been able to return a string if it is damaged or defective, such as in this case. I will not be purchasing anything from this seller ever again.Just wanted to warn any other players of this issue before you buy. The string itself, which I have played on for years, is totally fine — unless, of course, you get a dead/defective one.

I often buy dominant strings in packages of 4 that contain the A, D, G, and C string. I now have a proliferation of A, G, and C strings because my D string breaks more than any other string on my viola. It was great being able to buy a single string. The string is new and is a dominant D string. It works great and I've been very happy with it. Its a lighter weight than my other strings, but it is the string that the name lists. If you are looking for a single D string, this is a good product.

I play a Luis and Clark carbon fiber viola. They recommend Dominant C, G, and D strings, and a Larsen A; I've tried others and have found that this string combination is by far the best for my fiddle, just as they told me it would be.
