Although I'm not a fan of teaching dogs to eliminate indoors there are times when it simply cannot be avoided, such as when you have had an injury and are unable to take them out for a walk.I ordered this thinking we could use it for both our German Shepherd Dog and our Pomeranian Chihuahua however the mat isn't really the size I envisioned. It is about the size of a welcome mat you'd put outside your front door. Enough room for our PomChi but not for our GSD.It's not all that pleasant to wash the absorbent pad but I prefer that to a disposable one for environmental reasons. This set, if you can train your pet to use it can be a lifesaver in unforseen circumstances and does not take up much room when you're not using it.

My puppy destroyed the grass in one day, seem like it was a cheap turf. Very disappointed, a waste of money

I was expecting a bigger pad that would fit under a chair but this is SMALL! It only fits under one leg of the chair that my dog has his pee pads set up under (where he likes to go frequently.) I have a small breed dog (yorkie poo) but I still feel that this tray unit is not big enough. I think this better suited for a small breed puppy. The grass looks and smells like turf - it really smells bad - like fertilizer or a lawn treatment. That was the first thing I was hit with when I unpacked it. The grass feels like a quality artificial turf - it's thick. The backside of it looks like the backside of a rug. There is plenty of drainage holes on this grassy slab. Then you place down the washable pee pad. The pad is decent for the most part - it's thin but not too thin. It has drainage as well. I opted not to use this because they stink up pretty fast and I personally don't want to wash it in the same washer I wash my clothes/bedding in, etc. I never use the washable pads.Next comes the tray (see pic, it looks like it has bumps/dots on it). This has 24 drainage holes on it - 4 holes every few rows of this plastic drainage sheet. They used a bumpy pattern to help give rise to the grass but I think it is a big mistake in terms of cleaning. I think the only way you could clean this is with a hose. That might be all well and good if you live in a warm climate to hose it down everyday, but for people who live in cold climates, this may be annoying. If I was the brand, I'd have made it into a raised but flat smooth top so you could at least wipe it clean and not necessarily hose it down. It's small enough to rinse off in your shower but do you really want to do that? I don't. The drainage tray is another part of this unit that I am NOT using either.Lastly, the bottom tray - has a nice tall lip to ensure no liquid spills out onto the area you are setting this up in. This is the best feature and why I ordered it because frequently when you just set up pee pads, sometimes the pee dribbles off onto your rug. With the tray, at least that won't happen now. The only downside is that the tray only fits under 1 leg of the chair. I would prefer it to be XL or super Xl so that it could sit under all 4 legs. The tray can hosed out and rinsed off. You could also suck up the liquid with a pet vacuum (which is what I typically do), or you could use paper towels and a cleaner to wipe it up and sanitize. How I set this up for my dog was I used the tray (with the lip) only and put pee pads on top. I did not use the turf or the washable pee mat because it will be easier to clean the way I set it up. (Replace the pad used and wipe up any pee on the tray, rather than going through 2 extra steps.)Because of certain flaws and tweaks that need to be made, I don't feel this unit is worth the price point. These typically sell for at least $19.99 with sizes bigger then this going for more. I honestly dislike this product. I recommend you keep looking for something better or you can do what I did.
