I purchased this transformer to replace the 10 year old transformer that came with my outdoor low voltage landscape lighting system. This works great. I have not used it's light sensing abilities since I control the on-off timings using home automation. It has the rated capacity.

The transformer is a great value, small and compact. Features work well easy to install, only the instructions are not to good, but it’s pretty easy to figure out. Only Had it now for a few months, I will update the review if necessary but as of now no problems, a great buy!

I am pleased with how this unit replaced my old mechanical 12 volt landscaping transformer/timer.As shown in the photo the new unit is where the old unit was, inside the home, so I did NOT rate "Waterproof" since it doesn't apply. The unit is near where the underground cable from the 4 12 volt lights enters the home.I also did NOT rate the Timer Function (although this unit DOES have several timer modes) because I specifically like this unit for its dusk-dawn mode. The photocell is at the end of a long wire which made it easy to mount it on a window frame pointed outside. Be careful to aim it so that it does not "see" neighbor's porch lights, street lights, etc. It has been working fine for 3 days/nights so my orientation seems to be working, but you may need to experiment. I feel the extra effort with the photocell was worth it since it saves me from the timing of on/off being impacted by power failures, Daylight Savings Time starting or ending, Summer vs. Winter sunrise/sunset times, etc. Another nice point is that in Dusk-Dawn mode if you cannot see the lights from where you are, the unit will light up both its Dusk-Dawn mode *AND* its On or Off lights as relevant to whether the lights are powered on or off based on the photocell input.The owner's manual is a little vague at some points, such as: the unit has 2 V+ and 2 V- terminal screws for 12 Volt connections (I suppose this is for 2 separate runs, I just used one in my set-up). Also note that the stranded bare 12 volt wires are meant to go UNDER the metal plate that the screw goes through (think of it as the wire being pinched by that plate once you tighten down each screw).

Don't like that you can't have two timed programs so the lights would go on for a couple of hours in the morning and then again for 4 hours at night

Got these to power my Christmas lights in the front yard. It’s tasked with powering 8 3-watt landscape lights and 2 10-watt specialty lights. Comes with basic light sensors for dusk-to-dawn lighting, as well as your typical 2, 4, 6 or 8 hour on cycles. It just works and is simple to implement. Moreover, it’s surprisingly compact so it’s easy to place and install. With the power connectors on the bottom, the transformer is automatically weather proof once it is installed vertically and affixed to any surface. Altogether a solid choice that’s also a great value. Highly recommended!

I used this transformer timer to power a new 45W,12-volt in-ground LED pool light, and nothing else. It does the job. It has an intuitive pushbutton menu on the front and works well. The dusk to dawn setting sensor is spot-on. Very good value. I am hopeful it will last. It is located outdoors but has cover from the elements. The only minor deficiency in design is that the unit has the two normal power terminal lugs, but no third lug for an optional ground wire. Most landscape lighting only requires two leads. The light fixture had a ground wire, so I just connected it to the ground wire within the adjacent 120v receptacle into which the unit is plugged.

I saw the yellow banner stating that this was a frequently returned item and to read the reviews, but I didn't see any really negative ones except for the DOA units. I decided to roll the dice. This SEEMS like a decent transformer but I noticed my lights on in the middle of a sunny day and I had it set for "dusk till dawn". I tried re-seating the sensor connector, repositioning the sensor, resetting the power, changing the setting to something else and then back but the lights come back on after 30 seconds. I thought about calling the service center but I don't want to deal with that. Maybe just a bad sensor - but I'm done rolling dice. There are comparable units around the same price - one brand is the same as my lights - I'm going with that one (did not see it the first go-around).Update: I decided to email support. They are sending me a new sensor. I'll update the review again once I know the outcome.
