I used this to desolder all the switches from a mechanical keyboard PCB. That was 87 switches, with two solder joints per switch. There were also 4 RGB LED pins per switch. It worked fine on the larger, spaced out switch pins, but I gave up on trying to use this to desolder the tiny, cramped LED pins. I ended up just melting all four pins at once with the side of the iron and pulling out the LED while the solder was fluid. It is kinda hard to operate. It doesn't always successfully suck up the solder, so I often have to try multiple times. The tip is made of plastic, so it frequently touches hot things and starts to melt and warp. As the plastic warps, it partially blocks the hole, which makes it harder to successfully suck up solder, and more likely to touch hot things and warp more. Sometimes the old sucked up solder doesn't come out when you plunge it, then it attaches to the joint you're trying to suck up, and you end up with more solder than you started with.It is usually easier just to use desoldering braid, unless you have a very large, clean join with plenty of room around it. Then it works fine. If you have steadier hands than I do it might be easier for you to use this. I don't have shaky hands or anything, it just seems to require a lot of precision and coordination to get good results.I can't complain too much for the price. It does work, but I feel like it could be better.

Bought this tool for the occasional desoldering job. I wasn't planning on using it a whole lot, so I didn't want to spring for something nicer and settled for this guy, which looked to be middle-of-the-road.I must say, I was pleasantly surprised that this product turned out to be surprisingly high-quality for $5. It's well made and sturdy and disassembles easily for cleaning. It does a great job removing solder and its [almost] all metal construction seems sturdy enough to last for a long time. No complaints at all. These tools are all but essential for any soldering job... not just desoldering. They are great for cleaning up if you make a mistake and put too much solder or solder a cold join- just melt the joint and suck it up with this guy, then start over. You will save a lot more than $5 worth of your time with this guy.

It does it's job. I work with larger components and I can tell you this desoldering pump works great. It takes most of the molten solder of the contact that I wish to clean. I still have to use a wick to get it perfectly clean, but it gets most of the solder off. It is also very useful for fixing cold solder joints and large solder bridges. It is needed for instructors to fix the mistakes of their students. I recommend everybody who solders circuits to own some kind of desoldering pump. Do not buy a cheap desoldering pump because those things are terrible and break easily. I would recommend this one because it's sturdy. It comes apart to be cleaned. It is also very user friendly and can get up close to the joint to suck the solder of the board without being destroyed.

I just got the sucker, this thing is a monster (suction wise) its the perfect size, it does have some kick when you push the button, not a deal killer for me, just gotta train the hand muscles to be ready, with some practice it'll be notta big deal at all... shipping was surprisingly fast the estimated time to arrive was by the 8th of January, I got it in three days thats why I'm giving them 5 starts, as far as the packaging the item itself could have used a bit more protection, I read some reviews and I decided to give this one a try, you spend $5.00 on junk food or cigarettes, so $5.00 for this is nothing to cry about, I would like to see some more tips as a add on option or maybe one extra tip as a gift, just saying.Note to seller: maybe invest in a big roll of bubble wrap and charge an extra .50 cents to offset the cost I would be more than willing to pay the extra few cents and know that the item is tighly secured and it'll arrive in one piece, no dents or otherwise. Mine arrived in one piece just saying that's all....In my own rating scale from "just ok" to "extremely satisfied" I will give the seller and the item an "Extremely Satisfied" its not commercial grade but for just basic hobby type applications its good enough.. as I always say, this is my own experience not everyone has the same good experience, good luck and hope this helps you in choosing.

Well I finally got one, don't take that wrong, it was shipped very fast, the reason I said finally is I had a good electric solder sucker from radio shack that had removable tips but couldn't replace the tips, they changed the model, it was ok but these solder suckers are better, they have more suction and the tips can be flipped over after one end gets to bad to use. Now I just need to see if the seller has the replacement tips for this model or where I can get them.Reason why these are better than the heated solder sucker from radio shack is that you don't have to squeeze a bulb and try to hold it while heating up the solder, the squeezing of the bulb and holding it can cause the solder to cool down if you don't hold it real tight plus even when you let go of the bulb it does not have the instant suction these type solder suckers have. I was taught in a soldering and assembly course that these are the recommended solder removers of most electronic soldering and assembly companies. Actions speak louder than words, buy one and try it out, the cost is low enough!
