I got this and the wireless bridge for Otter during the year end sale! I had trouble finding good information about this scanner so I wanted to write up some details to help others make a decision. The scanner and bridge have been great! They're reliable and get really solid scans (see the pictures). It takes some practice to figure out how it behaves but once you start getting the feel for it, scanning goes really smoothly! It can plug in via USB 3.0 and that's the only way to calibrate it. The cable has a little screw on it that is a little annoying to get screwed in but ultimately secures the connection really nicely and is worth it! I wish the little handle bit were a little more stiff so it wasn't so hard to keep hold of but regardless that's minor. When connected to the computer, it seemed to recognize it right away and seems to do so consistently. It automatically updated firmware and took me through calibration. Computer-connected scans, as long as your computer can handle a modern 3d game, should be nice and smooth!Calibration (within the Creality Scan app) was a little confusing at first. I wouldn't try to scan the QR code on the back of the board right away, just input the board's SN. It didn't seem to want to cooperate scanning the QR code but once it started calibration everything went fine. Afterwards it seemed possible to scan the QR code but once it's entered it is saved so that's not super important. It only calibrates with the cable connection but, if you get a wifi bridge, you can be wireless and in my experience, with a capable device you can get solid high-FPS scans! One thing to note is that it basically requires Wifi6 capabilities. I tested it on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (which has wifi6 capabilities) and it was perfect and smooth. The phone connects directly to the bridge which you can do by going to the wifi search on your phone and connecting to the wifi network hosted by the bridge.I tried it with my computer and learned I didn't have wifi6 capabilities so I ordered a $30 wifi USB dongle and was able to see the same high framerate scanning capabilities and can get beautiful results! I don't usually scan to my computer, mobile capabilities are a great feature! You can also easily upload your mobile projects to your computer for processing (and sometimes the app will recommend that). It is a fairly quick transfer and works reliably as long as your mobile device and your computer are on the same network. But processing on device goes relatively smoothly as well!Like many scanners, it struggles with shiny surfaces and blacks. The minimum scan size seems to be 10x10x10mm (2000mm max) but you can trick it into doing smaller objects by just scanning the area around it. I haven't gotten perfect scans that way but I'm not an expert at this yet either. The level of detail the Otter gets is incredible! Look at the example pictures, one of those was a self-scan of the back of my hand, one of my shoes (with 2 pictures a full shot and a bit of a zoom) and the final example pic is a little Christmas bird figure. I included that picture to demonstrate the color capturing capabilities! It requires a decent amount of even lighting (you can see the feet were shaded and a little messy) but overall produces a great result!I would highly recommend this scanner and the wifi bridge! Make sure you've got a solid device to scan with (computer or phone) and a solid wifi6 capability and you will likely enjoy this! I'd just note that it's something you're going to have to learn to use because it's a precision device. It doesn't require markers or any kind of treatment for many things (all of the above scans tracked geometry only) but they can be useful for difficult things like shiny or dark colors. It can do Geometry, Texture, or Marker tracking. I've mostly used Geometry and Texture and they've been great!Keeping hands still for scanning is difficult lol especially with how accurate it is but with some practice you can be pretty quick! I recommend some kind of bracelet so you can track around the wrist because flipping from one side of the hand is difficult to track.
