I have been learning sumi e since December. I started with a basic set but found I wanted a smaller brush to use on fine details. These work great.Only wish they had had hangers on them. I added ones myself.

I have very small handwriting naturally, so I set out to find a fine brush, & this one did not disappoint!! I finally have a quality brush fine enough for me to write 鬣 without it looking like a squiggly ink blob!I also use it for watercolor & ink brush painting & I can attest to its quality in retaining & absorbing various watercolors & inks.Pros:• Absorbant bristles that do not swell obtusely when wet, so the strokes stay fine & clean• Bamboo is smooth & feels good to hold even with my de quervains tenosynovitis• Well packaged, arrived safe & sound; plus the cap to protect the bristles is much better quality than all of my other brushes• includes care instructions in case you're new to this style of brush• The length of this brush is perfect. I have several other brushes that are so long they touch the table when hanging to dry & bends the bristles but not an issue with this one• No matter if I use watercolor, an ink stone & inkwell or an alcohol-based liquid ink, this brush cleans beautiful & easy• retains its shape very well throughout cleaning & travelling in my backpack• it smells really nice..?? Not important to its function but it is pleasant so there's thatCons:• the loop to hang the brush pulled loose once but it was a quick & easy fix• I have become so fond of this brush I no longer want to use my dozens of other brushes oops ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭ the day this brush breaks so will my heart

This Chinese brush is fantastic for both small and large calligraphy projects. Its versatile quality allows me to write small, precise characters smoothly, but I can also push it to create larger strokes with ease. The weasel hair is soft and durable, making it a joy to use.One of the best features is how easy it is to store, thanks to the convenient study paper tube container that comes with it. The brush is also small enough that washing it is a breeze, which is a huge plus for maintenance.Additionally, the manual that comes with the brush, explaining the different types of brushes, is a nice touch and helps deepen the appreciation for traditional calligraphy. Overall, it’s a great quality brush for anyone serious about practicing calligraphy. Highly recommend!

Says 80% goat hair on prescription, though I highly doubt. Way too elastic. Not good to use.

These are great watercolor brushes and very versatile. After a bit of a learning curve I now think of these as my go to brushes.

Comes to a sharp point, holds it, barely shed any hairs. Does hold a lot of liquid. Was carefully packaged and nicely presented in a cardboard tube box. I do like it.

First of all, you would find the brushes were shipped very nicely packaged and carefully protected. The brushes construction quality is very good in my opinion. The user manual provides more than detailed and informative instructions on properly using, and maintaining the brushes. Following the instructions closely, I have been very pleased with the consistency and performance of those brushes in my calligraphy applications. Absolutely no bristles shedding issues as commonly found in many cheaply made Chinese painting brushes. Very good buy, and will try other bigger size brushes from this brand!

I am a beginner in Chinese calligraphy (roughly 5 months). I am studying the Ou-style calligraphy (歐體字). I am now going through Prof. Tian's book - "Daily Calligraphy Exercises" (田蘊章 - 真行草每日一字). I write 48 4cmX4cm characters daily. 32 kai characters (楷書), 8 cursive characters (行書) and 8 symbolic characters (草書). I have gone through a few brushes already, none of them wrote as well as Qiming Wenfang's QingYue, it is the best by a large margin. It writes well for all 3 calligraphy families I write (Kai, cursive, and symbolic). To me, it feels just right - not too stiff or too soft. It is a great brush for me to work on strokes. I have written roughly 1500 characters on QingYue and it's still writing very well. I cannot recommend it more. After writing, I recommend cleaning it as well as you can. I believe it is made of very high grade goat hair so it is essential to remove as much ink residue as possible. I stir the brush in bowls of water until the water looks clear then I dry it with paper towel while giving it a few moderate squeezes. I stir it in water once more and dry again with paper towel. Finally, I give it a good spin so loosen the hair before hanging it.I also recommend cleaning it with a tiny bit of shampoo weekly or bi-weekly.
