Product is durable and easy to use. I had a problem with the initial winder, but customer service was awesome and immediately responded. The new one came in quickly and they gave me a free upgrade. I highly recommend using this company.

Works great for ‘fine to sport weight’ (1-3 size). Not so good on worsted and bulky yarns.

Easy to assemble. Easy to use when you follow the directions and there is a video on how to use it. I would be happy if they made a jumbo one that held a 17oz yarn skein.

Love, love, love this wool winder. Really great quality and I was impressed that it stops if the knot is stuck etc. winds a ball faster and with less stress on my shoulders forming a neat and tidy ball with the option to centre pull the thread. Great value, well made and does the job perfectly

I received this email from Caydo after I complained that they would not show this being used with a swift. Number 6 is the deal-breaker for me!! I would not have purchased!“Dear valued customer,This is Caydo Customer Care, thank you for choosing Caydo to be a part of your life. We have the following suggestions for you to use our yarn winder properly.1. Please use the yarn winder on a stable table to reduce the noise caused by table vibrations. The machine is electric but not fully automatic, so it may require hand feeding when in use.2. If the yarn holder is not properly secured, it may fly out during operation. Therefore, please make sure that the yarn holder is firmly in place before turning on the machine.3. We suggest you straighten the yarn to prevent tangling before winding. If the yarn gets stuck or tangled, the device will stop to protect both the machine and the yarn. You can untie the yarn, then turn the knob off and on again.4. It is difficult for the machine to wind (super) bulky or too thin yarns. Bulky yarns may cause the machine to get stuck and unable to wind, or cause the machine to emit a harsh sound. Please choose the suitable yarns. We recommend Blanket Yarn(≤ 7mm), Chenille Yarn, Cotton Yarn (50%-100%), Carpet yarn, Ice bar yarn, Cream Yarn.5. This yarn winder is powered by a USB-C cable that comes with it. Any other Type-C charging cable can also power the machine.6. The yarn winder is not suitable for use with Swift.”

I bought a different, cheaper winder from another site. The first ball seemed fine but then it stopped working! I took the plunge with this one and am glad that I did. It has wound all the wool that I had washed into beautifully neat balls and it entertained our church craft group as I wound some wool for one of the ladies. They all loved it too. Some people in reviews on it commented that it stops at times but it does that if there is extra tension caused by a tangle or knot. I see this as a positive thing, giving you chance to sort the tangle out. I would thoroughly recommend this item to anyone who is wondering if they should take the plunge. Please note, this is NOT a review of a free product but a genuine unbiased opinion.

I was excited to receive this wool winder as I thought it would save me a lot of hard work. However, I was very disappointed after trying to wind my first ball of wool. The winder was quite fast at first but the more yarn that is wound onto the cone, the slower the winder gets. You cannot, as suggested by the lady advertising it, have two going at once as you can’t leave the winder to “get on with it”. On my second ball of yarn the winder was so slow that it eventually stopped and I had to turn the knob to stop and then start it again. I know it saves the shoulder action that’s involved with a manual winder but it’s certainly not quicker. It takes me half the time with the manual winder, so that’s what I’ve gone back to. If I could give this a zero star rating that’s what it would get.

I very quickly decided to return this. I watched several positive YouTube reviews and thought it would be great. The price was discounted too which was a plus. I tried to wind 1 skein of merino sock weight yarn using my swift. I had to play with the speed a lot and definitely couldn’t leave it unattended. It snagged and stopped several times, so I’d untangle and start again, but it would move the starting place of the cake around on the post each time. If you look at my picture, it looks like it started in several different places and my cake was more of a bumpy log. Once I finished winding it, I decided to try winding it again but from the cake since it was a mess. I wanted to give the winder the benefit of the doubt and I thought I needed the learning curve, but it was just as bad the second time I started to wind it a third time and again it just kept tangling and starting the cake at different positions I was concerned about the integrity of the yarn at that point because it does pull tight between the tensioners and the post, so I stopped and used my manual winder to finish. Not to mention that this was close to 4 hours after I started because of all the starts and stops. It might work well with DK or worsted weight yarns, and I’m giving 2 stars because I didn’t try those weights of yarns. I saw one review that said the company does not recommend using a swift with this winder. I use a lot of yarn purchased in hanks, so that is definitely a dealbreaker for me. Depending on what kind of yarn you buy, you could be investing a lot of money in it. I just didn’t find this to be a product I’d want to use on my investment. One more thing, it does not come with a plug, just a USB cord. And it was pretty short. I had to run an extension cord to the spot where I needed to set up the winder.

I decided to purchase this item as my old hand-crank winder's gears were wearing out and because I needed a new compact one. I also saw a detailed online review of the machine and thought it might be a very good one based on the reviewer's comments. The machine's instructions do state that there are some yarns that it is not suitable for ("smooth yarns" - not sure what they meant by that - or "highly elastic" yarns such as acrylic and polyester). We used either 100% wool or a wool-nylon blend to test it out.On the plus side:It is fairly easy to assemble once you figure out some of the diagrams. (The online assemblage video is not much help; it goes over the assembly so fast that you need to play it several times.) We found when assembling the unit, there are some things that aren't terribly clear. For example, you need to insert the metal arm into the machine base until the screw holes line up. This part of the arm had two screw holes in it; one was very tiny and didn't work for the screws, so we found that you had to push the arm further into the machine until the second, larger screw hole was aligned. Other than that, it was pretty easy to put together and the screw holes aligned well for the other attachment, which was plastic. It's nice that the kit includes a small Phillips screw driver and more than enough screws to assemble the machine.Second, it works fairly smoothly. The base is solid, and the on-off switch on the front is a dial where you can increase the speed easily The machine motor is nice and quiet. The spindle is quite long and study and snaps into place with little effort. Guides are clearly marked on the spindle, and the slot at the top of the spindle does a good job of holding you yarn in place as you wind it. There are several guides on the winding arm that you need to thread the yarn through to wind it; you can choose to use all four, or just the two on the top depending on your preference. Note that if you only use the top guides, the yarn balls do tend to be looser.Next, the machine does have an automatic shut-off function if the yarn being wound snags or otherwise is troublesome. You do have to switch the machine completely off and then turn it on again to get it to restart the winding process.Last, the machine clamps easily to most table thicknesses. I tried it on several, and it was very sturdy and stayed put. The machine has four very small padded rubber feet on the machine bottom. The plastic and metal table clamp is not padded and uses a wing nut to tighten it, so if you have hand issues, you may have some trouble clamping the machine down to your table firmly enough. The machine usually doesn't wobble or loosen up that much with lots of ball winding, and it is generally simple to clamp it down again. We only had to tighten it down once during our testing, which was better than usual. The things I didn't like:You must buy a USB adapter plug separately or have an electric outlet with a USB plug installed in it to operate it. While the cord is about 6 feet long, which is nice, the machine does not come with a USB adapter. The instructions do recommend that you use a 5V-2A adapter. We tried both a heavier weight yarn (Cascade 128) and a light sock weight yarn (80/20 wool/nylon blend) in our test of the machine. All skeins we used were 100 grams/skein. We wound the yarn from a standard umbrella-style wooden yarn swift, and we followed the written instructions in the documentation for winding the yarn. The machine struggled to wind the yarn onto the spindle at first and could not turn the swift, so we had to manually turn the swift to get it to wind the yarn, which was very annoying. It was only when most of the yarn had been wound onto the spindle that the machine could turn the swift by itself. This was true for both weights of yarn we tried.Next, while the first two balls of heavier weight yarn wound fine, the third ball of the same weight yarn formed two separate balls on the spindle for some reason. While we made several attempts to correct this, we ended up having to rewind the entire ball back onto the swift several times and operate the winder very, very slowly to keep it from doing this. We also found that the guides started stripping off fibers from the yarn with the multiple rewinds.Next, the fine weight yarn did wind onto the machine's spindle as one ball, but it was very tightly wound. Slowing the winding speed didn't correct this, even though the yarn was correctly threaded through the guides.Last, heavy use and storage of the unit may be a problem. If you don't plan to leave the machine set up in its own space (I don't have space for that), storing it is awkward. It does not disassemble easily and its configuration means that you can't put it back in the box without taking it completely apart. I noted that the interior gears that wind the yarn and hold the spindle in place are all hard plastic and not metal, so that may be a concern if you do a lot of yarn winding. I also noted that our USB adapter was rather warm after we used it to wind the 8 skeins that we did, so that could be a potential concern if you're winding a bunch of skeins in one sitting. The small rubber feet on the bottom of the machine may detach if it's set up and taken down a lot. The disc springs on the guides that hold the yarn in place are also a bit finicky to use and are maybe even a little flimsy. My recommendation: it's about average for a moderately-priced unit. Since I didn't try other yarn weights or types in the machine, I am not sure how it might handle those. If you have a yarn swift that spins very easily and have space to leave the machine set up, it's not a bad option. If you also like to use small skeins of yarn (50 grams or less), it may be a good option. It is easy to use and potentially could save you time so you can get to knitting or crocheting faster. However, if you're looking for a heavy-duty winder, or you don't use toothy yarns like wool/wool blends, this might not be the one you want.
