Perfect for what I needed it for.

I had some cutting an welding to do on an old dirt-bike and I used these welding blankets to protect the rest of the nearby area from getting damaged from the heat and spatter. These blankets held up much better than my woven fiberglass ones (and they are far less itchy afterwards). The blankets are actually quite thick and feel like a lightweight felt, but they can take a direct flame from a cutting torch for a few seconds and protect everything behind them.

The blanket seems to fit the bill as advertised. It's nice and thick. No frills but none really needed. I've been using it to protect some flammable items in my garage where I've been grinding and welding. It's done it's job and I've seen no issues or degradation from the sparks thrown that direction. As a test, I turned a small butane torch on it near the corner and it held up great. There was no sign of the flame penetrating. I could see some of the fuzzier outer bits glow and smoke. That spot looked a small bit smoother afterward but otherwise no impact. A bright paper that came in the packaging clearly labeled it as a consumable with it burning away over time but based on what I saw I have no concerns with welding, grinding, or whatever else right by it. I'm happy with it.

I'm a welder and occasionally I need to weld cast iron. Welding cast requires some special precautions, one being a slow cool down. To accomplish this, you can do it a few ways but the easiest is to just wrap the part in a lot of blankets to retain the heat and let it cool gradually. Obviously some bad things could happen if you put a flammable blanket on a hot part that's north of 1000*F in places, so that's one reason why you might need a fire blanket like this!I had to do a repair on a cast section of a truck axle last weekend and put this blanket into service on that job for the cool down duty. It's soft and pliable and easily molded to the part and where I wanted to "seal" the blanket off. After 24 hours, the blanket looks the same as when I wrapped it up, no burns of tears. While this is the main use I see for the blanket, it's also a good option to have if I ever need to weld close to something that needs to be protected from weld splatter.Overall it performs as expected!

This safety blanket is made of a soft thick material that can be laid down on uneven surfaces without creating unnecessary air voids underneath. I haven't tried setting fire to it . . . Most important to me is that it's not full of glass fibers.

This welding blanket is certainly thick, appears to be of good quality and should provide localized protection when you don't need to spread out a tarp-sized welding blanket. I knocked off a star because I found the enclosed operating instructions a little confusing. it says to prevent damage from high heat you should keep work time to a minute. Heck, it takes me longer than that to get a decent arc going!. It also talks about 'wetting and folding' the blanket to extend life and/or purchasing a second blanket to...I guess...alternate between to reduce time of exposure to high heat. Using a 'wet' blanket sounds inconvenient and around steel you are just asking for rust that you need to clean later. That said, because the translation to english is very labored, the 1 minute work time and wetting may be for cases where the blanket is continuously exposed to high temperatures as opposed to the random, short lived sparks generated by Stick or Mig.
