Lens is great. There’s a 70-300 (ish) that you could also get, but this one is excellent for beginners without breaking any banks.Get a sheet of normal paper, and get a post-it. Hold them at arms length in front of you. If the thing you want to take a picture of is inside those boxes, you’re good.Great for standing on one corner and taking a picture of whats happening on the other corner. Great for street riots/fairs. If you crank the aperture and the shutter speed, great for highschool/peewee sports. If you’re trying to take a picture of a bird in a bush across the street, though, you’ll have the crop the hell out of it and it’ll be grainy. If you take a picture of your bf with this, he’ll love it.If you take a picture of your gf with this, she wont. It’s the civic of medium telephoto lenses…not amazing, wont wow your friends, but will get the job done.(Seller was faboo.)

Refurbished but can’t tell from looking at it or in the performance. No, it’s not going to perform like a 2.8, but again, for the price, it’s great glass! Under $200 when I bought it

Added some pictures with my R100- I know the f stop isn't super great, but you'll still get an ok background blur. Definitely some background compression too, but that's to be expected. It still blows my mind you can get this kind of performance out of a $200 lens and $300 camera body, I love the future! Also added a moon pic- definitely bracket in manual mode for that and then digitally crop it in post, but it can definitely catch a full moon.Oh and also I didn't use a tripod for any of these shots, the stabilization is really really great, even with a low end camera body. It's also shockingly light for a 200mm telephoto lens.

Lens is okay. Seems rather cheap. Most importantly there is no control ring.
