but as expected, this one feels very sturdy, distributes heat well and nothing sticks to it. I've always liked the brand, and I'm always disappointed when I try cheaper pans.

When I received the pan, which came in a plastic bag with no protection other than a cardboard band around it, I couldn’t believe it was a 12” frying plan because it was so light. When I compared the thickness of its edge with a Calphalon pan I bought 4 years ago, the new one was considerably thinner (see photo). Even the handle is made cheaper than before: the new one is made from rather thin sheet metal and the old one was a heavy duty cast metal (see photo). I have a hard time believing the new pan will perform as well as my old pan. This was not an expensive pan but I was expecting the same quality as the previous Calphalon pan I bought. I’m not sure if I’ll just return it or at least try it out.

I bought this to replace a 16-yr-old Calphalon fry pan that served well until the coating finally started to peel. Based on initial impressions, this seems like a nice pan. It has a quality feel for the price point. My old glass lid fits just like it should. Heat distribution seems on par with the old pan. I did notice, as others have said, the new pan weighs only about 75% of what the old one weighs (953 grams vs 1264 grams). Also, the depth of the new pan is maybe about 1 mm less than the old one. Time will tell whether these changes make any difference. For now, I'm happy with my purchase.

Love the size and the non-Teflon nonstick coating. Solid but not heavy. Love that it can go into the oven to finish dishes. Cleans up super easy.
