The item was much smaller than I expected but I like that it is very lightweight and doesn't use much material to get a fire started. Great for backpacking!

Easy to get however much you want off of the rope. Stores well, ignites quick. Love it for starting fires by the river too while fishing

Used these this past week. We had sub freezing temps, freezing rain, snow and just plain rain.Someone in camp forgot to cover the kindling pile and these were super easy to light and it kept going long enough to dry the tinder enough to light the fire.

This Black Beard rope fire starter exceeded my expectations by a long shot! I really dont understand how this can get a bad review. I sliced off the slightest bit of the black rope and bundled it up, and with just a spark from my dead lighter it ignited perfectly! From now on, I'll always have one on me if I'm camping or outdoors. It will last you forever too, I couldn't imagine how many fires I could get out of one single rope. 10 out of 10!

Once me and my brother were in west Virginia hunting and we decided we were gonna stay on the top of this mountain over night because we saw some evidence that white tail frequented the area. It was winter so it was super cold. We got this pile of wood together but everything was sort of damp because of the snow. We tried to get this wood burning for probably 15-20 minutes and it wasn't working out. It was starting to get dark and colder. We had not at this point ever used a black beard firestarter, my wife had got me some to take a long for this hunting trip but generally starting a fire is no big deal. I shredded one of these up and mixed it in with a wood pile and it lit so fast I was really surprised and also it burned so long that it caught the wood and was the foundation of the fire until it took off on its own. It was really convenient. I carry them all the time when I go out now. These things are great.

This is the best baked tinder I have ever used. No need for hemp rope or other small tinder. It flames up on it's own. The only down side is that you really have to get a good spark on it. A small ferro rod may not have a big enough hot spark to get it to go.

I firstly would say I try to buy made In USA products as much as possible so this checks that box, and I'm glad for it. However, for me this product is too expensive per unit when there are other products out there on the market that work as or almost as well for lesser cost. As far as the product itself it does work well and, also for me, better than a competitor's brand in an orange stick which I also purchased and tested. This product requires less to cut and use which means for me I get more uses out of it. There are pros and cons to having a thin plastic wrap to hold the contents together as opposed to a much thicker cardboard style tube, but I do like the ability to separate the contents into individual ropes (in the event you had to divide this device among other survivors/users because your party had to separate). It's pretty easy to light but if you're using a ferro rod type lighter you better have something that will throw a lot of sparks. Overall it is a good product and the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the price.
