Product parameters:
Driver chip: TMC5160-TA;
Product size: 15.3mm*20.4mm;
Power supply voltage (VM): 8V---56V;
Maximum current: 3A (2.54 single row pin allows the maximum current to be 3A);
Maximum segments: 256;
Working mode: SPI mode, SD mode.
Product Advantages:
1. The external power MOS tube can support larger current, the maximum current can reach 8A (because the module is limited by the area, the current cannot exceed 5A);
2. Ultra-silent mode;
3. Small calorific value;
4. Prevent the motor from shaking;
5. Not easy to lose step;
6. Can drive 57 stepper motors.

This TMC5160T supposed to be handle big current high voltage. But Just put in 36V is enough to kill it with a mere load current 0.9A. Turn out it is worst than the 1s generation TMC5160 V1. The design on heat dissipation is the worst solution I have ever seen in my life. Heat sink is glue on with a tooth brush like material and can come off without notice. Apparently the main reason to kill this TMC5160T is the heat. I am not sure why the designer make the circuit board that is hard to put on a decent heat sink properly not to mention the advertisement said it suppose to handle up to 70V. Nope 24 V is the most it can do and we don't need it for the 24V application because plenty of orther TMC can work fine @ 24V. 1 star for the abd product can do nothing but died.

Switching to TMC2209 drivers from the older DRV8825s significantly reduced the noise in my projects. These drivers operate so quietly, it's a noticeable improvement for anyone aiming to minimize sound.I installed the TMC2209s on a DRV8825 shield/expansion board that I found on Amazon, and they fit well. There are a couple of extra pins that don't connect to anything, but they're not needed for the driver to work effectively.One thing to keep in mind is the microstepping capability of the TMC2209s, which goes down to 1/8th. This might result in slower movement compared to some other drivers, but the reduction in noise and smooth operation more than compensates for the slight dip in speed.

These worked perfectly fine on a BTT Octopus 1.1 for the X/Y steppers.... after a lot of research on configuration. It seems that these use an SPI interface instead of UART. This means that the hardware jumpers must be set to correct positions and also the firmware must be properly configured. This configuration is not well documented, so, happy hunting and good luck!

If you're working with a microcontroller and not a prebuilt board, be sure your logic voltage and your motor voltage are going to the right pin. The datasheet is correct, I got a module with a poorly labeled pin. Always check the datasheet.

I went this direction because the pro versions are a little pricey but as others stated I had one doa. I bought four because I needed four and no one offers singles so I’ll have to buy another set and can’t get my printer going until I buy another set. Can’t return because the chance of having another doa. Other then that lol the three works so far on buzzing at least

With some better heat sinking and/or forced air cooling you can get far more capability out of the chip. The TMC5160 can handle 600w - 10a60v per coil natively, but there are some limitations introduced by BigTreeTech's PCB and component selection. That said, you can extend the capabilities by using external gate drive transistors to nearly anything you'd like.I will probably desolder the TMC5160 and roll my PCB from one of the online PCB services. I bought the board because all the supply houses such as mouser are out of stock on the tmc5160 drivers.I'm using it to drive 17hs24-2104s 2.1a stepperonline motors, and it works well.

The noise difference in StealthChop mode is astonishing. I run mine completely over UART which is very handy. Also the built in step generator (VActual) is great for offloading the stepping logic from your micro controller so it can get on with more important things
