Cleans rusty and painted metal great. No need for chemicals. A little pricey but you get a good quality disc.

I used recycled metal for a recent project so I decided to buy a few more of these. These take off paint quickly and don't gum up with paint like a tiger wheel/flapper wheel.

I originally used the Strip Discs to remove paint from a jet ski trailer I was reconditioning a few years ago. Recent however, I used them to remove paint that was sprayed on a fountain in our backyard. It's a large fountain and took 6 or 7 discs to get the job done. Other than sandblasting, this was the way to go. I would recommend them for heavy duty sanding like the jobs I described.

Stripped my hood on my tractor to bare metal and repainted. Have bought again for another project. They wear out eventually but I am happy with the longevity.

I'm using the disc on a 4 1/2" angle grinder. The disc fits well on the arbor, but had to use the opposite side of the retaining nut as the disc is smaller in thickness than a standard grinding disc. I'm using the disc to remove eight layers of enamel paint on an antique truck. The disc removes the paint quickly and doesn't seem to load up. So far the disc has minimal wear; one disc did the entire hood. The disc leaves a surface finish equivalent to about 100 grit. The disc removes surface rust well, but will not clean metal which has moderate rust damage. So far I'm pleased with the performance.

Depending on your grinder's arbor, they may be a bit fiddly to get setup at the right depth if you are using a shroud. I am using a makita vac shroud on a Bauer grinder and had to mix and match some plates from an old dewalt grinder to get the depth right. They cut wicked fast, and don't clog up on latex. I wouldn't use it on metal, as they burn up too fast. They really shine on wood siding or decking, as they cut fast, and hardly breakdown at all. I can easily strip 1000 square on one disc. If you run into nails..... that's another story. The finished surface is not ideal, but far better than I expected. On my siding, one pass with 220 on a DA cleaned it up just fine.

These work great but you'll need all 5 of them to sand a car. They get destroyed pretty quickly but do the job well. I should note that the router I was using was 5k rpm over the max rated, however if you keep the tool busy it goes way lower than that rpm so I just made sure to only turn it on when I was going to use it right away (to keep the rpms lowered.)

This is my second order of these. This time I attacked some concrete on the porch that had been, over the home's hundred year life-span, painted multiple times. I wanted to strip the paint and found water blasting, paint stripper and scraping weren't doing it. So, I tried these (had two left from a pervious job on wood) and they work wonderfully well. They even take off a thin layer of the concrete almost polishing it. It is hard work, took eight of the pads for around 40 square feet of concrete with multiple layers of oil and water based paint on it, but they look great now.First Purchase - I have a hundred year old historic home which I'm slowly renovating/updating, and with the various jobs, I have lots of paint to strip from the exterior trim of the brick home. I tried scraping and sanding with 40 grit sanding discs on an orbital sander, and it was getting me nowhere fast. Today I tried these Black Hawk pads and find they are at least 50%, if not 75% better than scraping and 40 grit sandpaper. I am very pleased. You do have to be careful once you get the paint down to the final, original layer. If you are too aggressive at that point, then you'll start eating into the wood... just need to be careful. There is nothing that makes stripping seven or more layers of oil and latex layers of paint easy or fast, but these make the job doable.

I bought these disks because of the reviews of how they won't clog. I'm sanding varnished/linseed oiled wood (not exactly sure). Unfortunately they do clog and quickly. after just a few sq' of sanding, the disk was completely clogged. HOWEVER, unlike the 36 grit sanding disks I was using prior, I was able to crack off the most of the crud fairly easily w/sharp blows of the edge of a putty knife. The 3 attached photos show what I am sanding, a disk after only a few minutes of sanding and the same disk after I cleaned it.
