The BAOFENG Microphone Police Walkie Talkie Mic is an excellent accessory for my UV-5R BF ham radio! The sound quality is clear and loud, making communication much easier. Bought these for my UV-5R's. Both of them worked as they should upon testing, loud when turned all the way up, you can hear the person clearly. Only time will tell for long term quality.

The cord is too short for anyone with a long torso. The speaker is no better in quality or volume than the actual radio. People say you're quiet or muffled when you talk on it. Feels light and cheap in the hand and is smaller than you realize from the photos. Technically does what it says it will do, but isn't a nice piece of equipment by any means.

It seems that most microphones have a similar flaw from the factory, whether Baofeng or Icom or whatever. The signal reports often say the audio is a bit muffled. The problem is that there is a very tiny hole for the actual microphone element, and especially in the case of the Baofeng speaker/mic, it is way off to the side so it looks good from the outside, but restricts functionality. There are multiple YouTube videos showing how to remedy this. Some I disagree with, but they all show drilling a different, and larger, hole and adding a small piece of foam between the microphone element and the hole. I personally don't put foam all around as I don't want to restrict the speaker function. I don't want it muffled. I tried it, and took it back out. I also don't remove what someone called the shroud around the element. This batch of microphones don't have the element soldered to the PCB so it would be unsupported. I use a centerpunch in the center of where the element goes, drill a hole, put in a tiny piece of foam, and reassemble. You do need to take care and pay close attention to how it came apart so you can get it back together properly. I have done a few microphones and it only takes me a few minutes, and the results are very good.

I'm using a Baofeng UV-5R with these Handheld Remote Speaker/Microphones and I must say that the price is right; but, as they say: "You get what we pay for". Unfortunately, the wiring for the speaker and the ground is incorrect for the UV-5R and must be modified to work properly. Also, the speaker is loose in the enclosure and rattles when the Remote Speaker/Microphone moves. Better glue must be used the keep the speaker in place. Finally, the Remote Speaker/Microphones work as expected after the above correction were implemented.
