This rod offers excellent quality and value, either as a backup or primary rod. I use it mainly for coastal salt-water fly fishing. I like fly rods with medium-fast action, not too stiff, and this rod is perfect for my casting action. I haven't used it long enough to comment on its durability. You'll save big $ with this rod in comparison with most US-made rods, and the quality of performance and finish are very good to excellent. This is a low-cost rod but it's not cheaply made, not low quality. However, I have a couple of criticisms:1. It doesn't come with a durable rod tube or cloth sleeve, items you'd have to buy separately. The manufacturer's tube is clear flexible plastic, with plastic-foam inserts to hold the rod sections in place without rubbing together. This was protectively shipped inside a long cardboard box. If you're going to transport this rod in luggage or as carry-on, I would recommend buying or making a better protective case from plastic pipe or something, including a cloth sleeve with 4 compartments. The rod I bought is a 4-piece, ten-foot rod. Its case is 33 1/2" long and it fits inside my rolling duffle bag. Of course, the more common nine-foot rods would be shorter than 33 1/2." Still good value for money, though.2. I like a Full Wells style handle on my heavier fly rods. This rod has a Full Wells cork grip of good quality, which was one reason I bought it. However, the grip could be a little longer and a little larger in diameter. It is almost too small for my hand. Still castable, still tolerable, but would be even better if the grip was larger in dimension, especially at the front (top?) of the grip, which is sanded down to a smaller diameter than the diameter at the base of the grip near the reel seat. If this handle was reversed, it would be great for me. But to give credit, I always take XL gloves and maybe my hands are larger than most. Anyway, I solved this problem by slipping a thin-walled foam tube over the cork grip, to make it a little fatter and longer. I happen to have tubing that worked, but could also have used some of the many sizes & varieties of heat-shrink tubing that's available online for grips on tool handles, etc.

Wish I didn't have to write this. I so wanted this rod and reel combo. Ready to get it set up and the tip broke off while stringing it. I was very gentle and treat my gear with respect. Sigh. This was going to be my small stream system. 😐 Now I've got to start over.

Great little rod for the price. First trip with it 15 20 fish per day few 18 inch plus. Great light rod with back equal to the fight. If anyone with one they think can match it at price well send it to my ill give it a fair shot but will be hard to beat. Great for gift for new folk getting started. I carry 2 so I can give it to newby or kid.

Was going to use it as a back up rod but I use it all the time. It's holding up to a lot of abuse

I've been fishing for 40yrs. This is not the best quality rod that you will buy, but for a back up or a starter rod this is a great choice. The action is great. The finish is good, the real is good. The onkything that droped it to a 4star is that the real seat is slightly loose. A plastic playing card shim fixed it. For $100 and for a rod that is occasional used (mines a 0/1 weight) its a good buy.

the 3 wt does a good job. I use it for trout, bass and blue gill. In FL saltwater I've caught small snook to 18" and trout to 20" no problem. no sign of saltwater corrosion but I do rinse every trip.

I was very surprised at the quality for such an inexpensive rod. Love that it came with an additional tip section. Used it on a hike to some high country to fish alpine lakes and it performed beautifully. Casts as well as some much more expensive rods I've owned. I'll definitely be buying more rods from Aventik

Bought this fly rod for saltwater fly fishing. I wanted a heavy weight rod and found this 10 foot 8 wt rod at a great price. It comes with a very nice clear plastic tube case that is handy for storage or travel. The rod has a great fit and finish with a deep green color. The cork handle is premium in my opinion. The rod is light weight and cast a country mile. Very happy with my purchase.
