The Asus Blue-Ray burner reads and writes blue-ray disk dvd very well but it can't read blue-ray data disk and there is no software to do so.

I like it. The laser in my old dvd drive got weak and wasn't recording music on one brand of blank cdr discs but it would on another brand of blank cdr discs; And it wouldn't read some of my backup dvd's [It read some but not all]. This new drive reads and writes on everything perfectly and more quickly. At first I thought there was a problem with this drive and I almost sent it back; But when I opened the computer I noticed the SATA power-cable from the power-supply wasn't plugged into the back of the drive, only the SATA cable was; So the blue light would flash constantly but it would never open. I did plug both SATA cables into the back of the drive but I put black electric tape over the ends of the power supply cables that weren't connected to anything and when I pulled on some of those wires it must have unplugged the SATA power-cable from the back of the drive. Make sure both the power-cable from the power-supply and the SATA data cable that goes to the motherboard are plugged into the back of the drive before closing your computer case. I like this ASUS BW-16D1HT blu ray drive.

Well-made and should prove reliable. I manage up to 40x read speeds which is sufficiently impressive but I did get a few read failures with some of my old DVD burns of many years ago, but this is to be expected.I haven't done any writing using this drive just yet and so can't comment on this aspect of performance.Overall recommended.

It is very durable, I've already used it a lot now and no signs of deterioration. The only complaint I have is that you have to connect it to SATA cables. Ugh it is a pain if you're like me and your case really doesn't have the space or opening for a drive. But I knew what I was buying when I got it just be aware. Otherwise a great piece of tech

Used makeMKV with 42GB movie and it burned this verbatim bd-r DL disc in 26.5 mins, I saw speeds up to 8.1x using Asus bw-16d1ht inside vantec nexstar DX2 usb3 external enclosure. This is the DX2 not the original DX, replaced the power supply with delta electronics adp-50yh B power adapter for a laptop supplies 12v 4.16amps 50watts , connector is a perfect fit , asus fits great in the enclosure.I saw no bubbling or damage of this verbatim bd-r DL disc after the burn, someone else reviewed that their disc bubbled, that can only be from a burner that has a laser that's too strong. Get the one I use and it should work 100%Tutorial: use makemkv and select backup and check the box for decrypt these files. Use ImgBurn to burn those folders called bdmv, makemkv, certificate. It preserves all menus , subtitles, etc from the original. It will play on a PS5, which is known to not play burned Blu rays.Flash the stock 3.10 firmware with a cross patched firmware called 3.10 MK, makemkv than recognizes that libredrive is available and that microcode is enabled.*update - I bought this external case beginning of April 2023, it's now middle of Sept 2023, so about 5 months, its held up quite nice, I've ripped through 121 DVD's and 70 Blu rays with e burner and this case. The case has held up well. I did have a failure of the Asus bw-16d1ht which died pretty quick, the 2nd Asus bw-16d1ht I got has been holding okay so far however I've had to disconnect it and reconnect it a few times , it appears like it just stops being recognized possibly due to overheating. It could be because the case has not enough air flow and the drive is naturally hot, dunno. I did have to find a guy on the makemkv forum, his guide is called "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023", and his username is Billycar11, he makes custom flashers to enable libredrive/ microcode. The second Asus bw-16d1ht had a much more recent manufacture date which can explain why it was more reliable but would not allow me to use the 3.10 MK firmware, so Billy had to make me a custom flasher, very strange and cool , it executed using .BAT files which I haven't seen since the early years of windows. cost was like $25 but he used some strange payment app called Zelle. it updated asus to 3.11. if this drive dies he recommended pioneer drives. from reading amazon reviews the internal ones are more reliable, blly also has a list of specific models as well. oh also the delta power supply still works well

Used for data back up for long-term storage and to read data stored years ago. It is doing a good job. Quiet when writing data at speeds of 6x and 12x. Can get noisy reading data at 24x - not a problem for me, but may become an issue for others.Front to back length is reduced compared to earlier Pioneer and LG drives. I expect this to have reduced durability compared to those, which were substantially heavier as well.

I needed this to download my disc music/movie collection into my computer and free up some storage space in my house. It works really well - went through every single CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc in my (extensive) collection in a few hours (I expected 7-10 days, based on prior experiences with other computers). They’ve been sitting in my storage room for decades, waiting for the time to make the move to software. So glad I can claim those sq. ft. and get some old junk out of the house. Plus, I can burn, copy, reformat, watch/play, and record whatever I need into CD/DVD/Blu-ray in the future. Anything I needed from a disc - this device carried it out without a bit of stress or anxiety. No rattling, squeaking, screeching, or otherwise odd, annoying, or distracting noises to speak of. Just a fan when it’s running really fast, which I like so I know it’s running well. It’s plug-and-play - secure to the desktop tower, connect a SATA wire to the computer’s MB, connect to the power supply and it and runs (like any HDD). It has software, sure, but I go w/o it. Give it something to work on, and it has everything on screen within avg. 5-15sec. It’s good to get something that does it’s job and holds up like I expect it to for a decent price.

When we received this drive the box was torn on the corners. (looked like someone had opened it before so maybe it was a return or possibility someone opened the box to see if everything was there before shipping. Since this was a present for my son I decided to wrap it and let him open it. Figured if it was bad I would just return it.The good news is that it seems the drive is in good condition. It does kind of bother me that the box was opened. Figure when you buy something new it should be in good condition when received. This is the only reason I took a star off the review. So far we downloaded a free Blu-R player and have played a few movies. The software we chose is ok but not the best out there. We have not tried ripping any movies yet so I will update this after we have a chance to play with the drive. It also plays DVD movies fine. A little noisy but works as expected.
