Does it play UHDs?
The software included cannot play UHD movies. The movie industry has not authorized use of the codec outside dedicated standalone players.
Is the Blu-ray player region free?
The region setting is software-based. The included software can change region five times.

htiWExpected software to be preinstalled and plug and play.Boy was I wrong, the only directions that are included is a link to Cyberlink to download software.But first you need to set up an account with them. After doing that, then you have to find the file to download. Not very user friendly.After spending a few hours, I finally got it to work. Then I find the software is only for ONE computer!I am unable to share the drive with other computers in my household unless I buy a copy of software for each computer along with seperate email accounts!Also the drive uses two proprietary USB-A cables to connect to computer along with a USB A to C adapter. Good luck if you lose one cable...Software runs OK so far playing a DVD.PART 2 - 30 days laterJust did a Windowd update. Now it says UNABLE TO FIND DRIVER! Unit broken now unable to play DVDs. Have to go throigh setup all over now! I'm past the return window, POS, DON'T BUY!!!

No setup, works right out of the box, and no complaints. Of course you need software depending on what you use it for but it's basically just plug and play. Highly recommend and would buy again.

Buffalo Blu-Ray burner works properly for disk burning and playing. However, it goes with software CyberLink, which has to be downloaded from a website. The CyberLink application is horrible. It can burn only files. It doesn't burn video to Blu-Ray disks as movie. Actually, I purchased the product to burn my videos to Blu-Ray disk and later to watch it through Blu-Ray player on TV. The CyberLink software doesn't allow to do this. I downloaded another free software from Internet and used it to burn videos on Buffalo burner.Another thing: when a new BD-R disk was burned, I tried to watch the new movie in CyberLink player. The video there was "jumping". Horrible quality of the player. I used VLC player - and there the movie looked great.In general, Buffalo burner is a good product, but should have nothing with CyberLink software.

I have used this drive for two projects. It could not read the first disc but another PC drive was able to read it. The opposite was true for my second DVD. It is easy to hook up and is small enough to carry with the laptop.

I was looking for a DVD player burner in June. I had to decide if I needed Blueray capability or not. I read the specs on some lower-priced DVD players and decided to go to one of them. That burner was flimsy, and the performance didn't match the listed specs. I bit the bullet and ordered this unit. It comes with a complete software package. I am ready for the latest technology. The brand has an excellent reputation. I'm happy to say that this device works great. It is fast, quiet and full-featured. I wish I had skipped the cheap one and bought this the first time.

I bought this because it wasn't just some random, white label junk made in china. I wanted a reputable name from a reputable manufacturer and I thought this would do. It worked great for a few months, then the audio stopped working during playback. I've tried six different apps and four different blueray discs, and standard dvds. None of them work anymore. Audio cds work, tho.I've updated all drivers and rebooted my computer multiple times, and even tried it on another computer.Support? The forum/knowledge base has nothing even closely related. Phone? No answer.I'd feel better about throwing it out if it was one of those cheap Chinese knockoffs that are practically disposable.Avoid.
