Quick ship, fits exactly in my cattle waterer, the previous one lasted over 8 years. I think they are very dependable and economical.

Photo after almost 2 days below 32°F ... measured lowest ambient temperature 15° ... fountain still flowing. De-icer stays in fountain year round. Price was much lower in 2021.

So ordered this in October, but didn't need to use it until this past week with temperatures getting in the 20's and 30's. It is barely heating up the water to keep it from freezing, and when my boyfriend tested it's wattage out put it was on around 5 watts. Wish I could return it but past the time window. Not worth buying.

I used this in a horse water tank (Washington State) to replace a different heater that uses 3x the power! Cut my electric use by 2/3… this is my second unit, should save 2000 watts.

This summer I set up a number of feeders and a birdbath so that my wife and I could attract and enjoy the diverse bird life in our area. Since we live in Northern Illinois, I knew that I would need some kind of heater to keep the water in the birdbath open from late fall through the winter and early spring. I researched a lot of options and chose this one for a couple of reasons - 1. the thermostat that only turns it on when the outside temp falls to a level that ice would form (to save me energy); 2. a low profile so that it did not interfere with the birds use of the birdbath; 3. a power cord that was long enough to reach the ground. This met all of my requirements and over the last two weeks it has worked like a charm - keeping the water open for the birds and they have been using it regularly to get drinks and take baths

I bought this over a year ago but hadn't reviewed it because by the time I purchased it the weather was changing and Spring came so I had to wait until I had a chance to use it to find out how it works. Well, I found out it works great. I had a similar model that was only 250 watts but it couldn't keep my small birdbath from freezing up from the really cold temps we had in 2017 (in the low teens). So early last year when it was really cold I had this 500 watt heater in and it worked much better and I have it in there now and there's no ice at all. If you need a higher watt heater this is the way to go. I would definitely purchase this again.

Worked perfectly in a small fountain (about 15 gallons). Birds and wildlife used the fountain throughout 6 winters. Recently noticed that the fountain water was "steaming" on a 20 degree day. Checked the temperature was 80 degrees. I guess on of the "multiple thermostats" failed.Odered a new one.
