The AmScope SE100-LED elementary stereo microscope has a pair of 10x widefield eyepieces, a 2x objective, LED lighting, and a reversible black and white stage plate. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm and a fixed upright inclination to simplify viewing for young users. The WF10x18mm eyepieces combine with the 2x objective to provide 20x magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.
Upper (episcopic) 1W LED light reflects light off the specimen. An LED light source provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The light is powered by two AA batteries (included), enabling the microscope to be used away from wired power sources. Bilateral coarse focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stage has a reversible black and white stage plate that provides contrast with light- and dark-colored specimens, and stage clips that secure the specimen during viewing. The microscope has a 2-3/4" (70mm) working distance. All metal construction is durable and stain-resistant.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

For the money, this microscope does what I'd expect it to do.I expected a metal body, but the plastic seems adequate.The focus controls do not work well. They should have had a rack and pinion design rather than the friction drive.The optics seem great, but if I were to buy it again, I'd get the model that has the forward looking 45 degree vision path for much less neck and eye strain.

My son’s science and stem lab instructor suggested this model and it has been a delight to look at everything under the scope. Easy to use for little eyes! No plates needed. I would recommend this product over again!

Un regalo para mi nieto que está encantado con él. No es un microscopio, se trata de una lupa binocular (dos lentes oculares) lo que la hace más cómoda de usar para los niños y además más interesante y atractiva para ellos ya que, con sus 20x aumentos, pueden observar multitud de objetos identificables con un detalle magnífico, ya que tiene unas lentes y óptica de calidad aceptable y mucha nitidez. Quizás la visión con un microscopio (más aumentos, por encima de los 200, 600 o 1000 aumentos) es más especifico pero menos interesante o polivalente para un niño. Buena opción para iniciarlos en el mundo de la observación y en el uso de instrumentos de semiprecisión. Recomendable.

Ordered for use with observing insects for a university level entomology course.Honestly with the price I wasn't expecting much, but I'm pleasantly surprised.It feels super light and pretty cheaply made, and the microscope itself is very small, but the optics are quite good.Was able to observe smaller flies and see levels of detail such as the greater ampulla, number of tarsal segments, and depending on the size tarsal pads and such were visible as well.Unfortunately the magnification can't be changed, but for most things it should be fine. Working distance permitted a full size insect pin to be placed upright and a top-down view of the insect was still well within focus.One thing to note is that the angle of the eyepiece is quite vertical, thus you have to kind of be hunched over the microscope rather than looking forward. While it can be uncomfortable, using a higher chair/stool should be okay.Considering the price I'm quite satisfied, though I did just receive it so if my experience changes (i.e. it's not durable over time) then I will update this review.

A very good scope to introduce children to tiny worlds. The magnification is good, with a reasonable depth of field. The illumination from the light is sufficient for eye observations; too dim for entry level microscope cameras. My astronomy camera coped with the lower light levels; a bright external spotlight should overcome issues with less sensitive microscope cameras. The focusing is a little agricultural, however the depth of field means that it is not an issue. The build quality is robust, which should cope with the rougher handling of younger children. It’s fairly compact and light; making it suitable to take out into the field. Hopefully the attached photograph of a parasite on a Honey Bee provides an example of the magnification.

I ordered several for a class. The lights on two of them 4 don't stay on, suspect defective switches. I'll try to fix before sending back. Optics are good, sharp and clear.
