Easy two nut replacement. Took longer to clean up the housing than to install.

The motor was great, the fan didn't fit. Had to use old fan blade.

This a good replacement fan motor and it's extremely quiet compared to the motor it is replacing. I would buy it again.Update I did buy another one and it's just as quiet and effective as the first one.

I had to replace a burned out bathroom fan after owning this house for 20 years, and the original fan was here for some years before. I couldn't find it locally, so tried Amazon, though I was doubtful. This replacement fan was just what was described in the website and did the job needed. Will see how long it lasts, but that's for another day, hopefully in the distant future.I did need to reverse the 2 shaft supports and screws to match my existing fan housing. It was easy to do, but some might not realize it is a common change that might be required in your unit. One shaft support is threaded, so the screws could not simply be reversed to accommodate attaching to my existing main housing unit.

First I highly recommend taking plenty of clear pictures of your original fan - from multiple angles - while both up in the ceiling before you've removed it - and then from front and back and multiple angles once it's removed from the ceiling before you start your new replacement assembly. It's a good idea to take pics of the replacement motor too - before any disassembly and reassembly - and then double check your pics and make sure they're clear! I needed to reference my pictures multiple times to confirm this and that when I started assembling this new motor and fan wheel. This replaced one of my 26-yr old Nutone bathroom exhaust fans in a 1/2 bath powder room. My purpose with this fan/for this 1/2 bathroom was just for exhausting/removing unpleasant smells (not moisture from showers). My original fan was Nutone model 696N-B, 50 CFM, 2.5 sones. I still needed to keep and use my original metal mounting frame (mine is 7 &1/8" X 8", but some mounting plates are different sizes) and I also needed to reuse my original mounting screws and bolts (the mounting screws included with this new purchase were just a shade too short). Some reviews mentioned a need to shorten the shaft so the fan didn't hit the ceiling/has room to spin once remounted back into the ceiling - but mine fit perfect, no shortening needed, yay! Some reviews also mentioned a need to reverse the direction of the fan (clockwise vs counter-clockwise). I was concerned about this before it arrived, because I had no idea what my original fan had been, as it had completely died before I could check that. However, many reviews and videos are available for fan direction reversal and they state it's easy to do if needed - but I lucked out on this too - no change in fan direction was needed for me. I can't confirm which way this new one spins, because it moves so fast and smooth, I couldn't tell! The way I confirmed I didn't have to change the fan direction was by testing it before I mounted it back into the ceiling: I assembled the new motor and fan wheel onto my original metal mounting plate, positioned the motor and electrical plug side so they were facing me - which put the fan wheel side away from me/on the backside (as this is way it will be when it's back up in the ceiling), plugged the electrical plug into an extension cord, confirmed it was working, then I lit a match, blew out the match -- and watched the smoke from the match then draw up into the fan and away from me -- not towards me! So this confirmed the fan direction for EXHAUST was correct! Same way the #2 smells will be drawn up and away -- bye bye smells! The fan noise level is about the same I had originally - I can't tell any difference at all, not too loud or too weak at all - perfect in my book. I am very pleased with everything on this replacement! This was an easy replacement - guessing took me about 30-45 minutes or so including cleanup! So as long as this fan keeps performing, I'll be ordering more when my other 2 bathroom exhaust fans decide to die.
