I have been using Ryzen since the 3000 series CPU's (I had a 3900X) and then upgrade from the 3900X to the 5950X and had been using that. I skipped the 7000 series because I was content with my setup and the X570 platform was a solid performer for me.But the time had come to upgrade my performance and I upgrade to the 9950X and I've been extremely happy with the uplift in performance. I had heard that the AM5 CPU's ran hot, but so far I'm finding my temps to be similar to my 5950X temps. There are excursion to 75-80c but it drops back down to my usual load temps of 65-68c (I'm using the 360mm Arctic Liquid Freezer III with Corsair LX120 fans on it).I'm as happy with the 9950X as I was with the 5950X in terms of performance. I have a mixed load of productivity apps (such as 3D rendering, and CAD) as well as gaming and I'm getting better performance in my productivity apps, and very similar or better frame rates in my games compared to the 5950X.If you're like me and debating on switching to the 9950X from the 5950X, I haven't come across any negatives in my upgrade and highly recommend the CPU and the X870* platform. It's my understand the X670* platform works well too, but I went all new across the board as it just made sense in my case to do so.

I think it is the best cpu for a balance of gaming and productivity. If you are into gaming more than anything else hold out for the x3d. It is not a huge leap from the 7000 series but it is faster than my 5900X. It is not the best value/performance cpu but it is really good.

This 9950x 16 core 32 thread CPU gives you the best of both worlds. It's excellent for gaming and professional production applications. What's nice is since the initial release, AMD has fixed the latency bug in the newer AGESA Bios updates. This CPU is in all honesty a mini-Threadripper. The 9950x is very efficient and powerful. It's a great long term CPU investment. It's rock solid and the thermals very good.

This was for a new workstation/game build. My system is air cooled with a Peerless Assassin and with my fans tuned as per ASUS ProArt Mobo and Armoury Crate SW it is whisper quiet, temps are great. I needed a workstation for graphics and I needed a game friendly processor. I have no problems with this. I was going to hold out for the 9950x3D, but this thing is only running at 4-7% in games (with a ProArt 4070 Ti Super), I can't imagine needing more umph for quite some time. I would say it's overkill for most games short of simulation. It unpacked system drivers so fast I thought something was wrong with my build because it wouldn't install drivers... it was reinstalling them in the vsync frame update or something LOL. It is astounding. As per 3D Mark my system tests above average for all tests.

I did an upgrade with 9950x cpu, B650 board and 64GB CL30 kit. I am aircooling this with noctua NH D15SE AM4. Cinebench 2024 MT did 2256. My data processing use case improved only +50% from 5800x3D initially. I then assigned affinities manually to avoid overlap of each process to both CCDs, I also disabled SMT. I reached 2.6x throughput compared to 5800x3d. Obviously this CPU is not for gaming, but it does work well for parallel workloads. My temps are between 60-90C without OC on air. I would recommend this to anyone who does not need 3d vcache part, because the price difference to other models is not that relevant and all these cheaper options (except 3d cache) are contained in this cpu. You could always disable as many cores as You want in a BIOS.

I replaced a 7900X3D with this unit. It dropped right in. If you encrypted your main drive, backup your encryption key first.Remarkably, in many benchmarks it was not any faster. Geekbench 6 said it was the fastest cpu it had tested by about 10%. I was one of the first because it was not listed yet and they needed 5 different people testing before it was. It easily overclocked to 5.9 GHz with a Noctua air cooler. Overall I expected the speed that perhaps will come with the 9950X3D when it arrives. With a premium cooler it was easy to throttle the cores. The cooler was ice cold with a super premium thermal paste, so I can only assume that internally the chiplets are unable to thermally interface properly to well designed CPU coolers. As a manufacturer I would certainly create a better thermal interface. I know that Intel has struggled with it for years. You should not need to de-lid a cpu just to cool it.

The AMD Ryzen 9 series consistently aims for the top spot, and this latest iteration doesn’t disappoint. Boasting a Ryzen 9 CPU clocked at a base speed of 4.3 GHz, this processor is clearly built for performance-demanding tasks. Based on the new “Zen 5” architecture, this chip packs a punch with 16 cores and 32 threads, making it a serious contender for both high-end gaming and content creation workloads.Performance Powerhouse:AMD isn’t shy about highlighting this chip’s capabilities. They claim the Ryzen 9 can deliver ultra-fast 100+ FPS performance in popular games, and that’s exactly the kind of claim that excites gamers. The 5.7 GHz Max Boost clock speed, coupled with the unlocked multiplier for overclocking, offers enthusiasts the opportunity to push the chip even further. The substantial 80MB cache ensures quick access to frequently used data, further boosting speed.Modern Platform Support:This CPU is designed for the Socket AM5 platform, AMD’s newest architecture, which provides access to cutting-edge technologies. The support for DDR5-5600 RAM and PCIe 5.0 (on compatible motherboards) signals that this chip is ready for the future. This means faster memory speeds and support for the latest graphics cards and storage solutions.Important Considerations:It’s crucial to note that a cooler is not included with this CPU, and AMD recommends a liquid cooler for optimal performance. This is understandable given the heat generated by a processor of this caliber. Be sure to factor this into your build costs. I spent less than $100 for a cooler which works well.

After all of the controversy surrounding Intel’s 13th and 14th gen CPU issues, I took a glance at AMD’s offerings for my next build. I decided to wait until the launch of their 9000 series to decide which brand to go with, eventually settling on the 9950x. Though the jump from their 7000 series CPUs may not have been huge, the 9950x is a beast in performance. Not their best chip for gaming, but 3d rendering and adobe software has been really solid. And honestly, the gaming performance is pretty impressive too. Hoping there will be minor adjustments made to further squeeze out performance from these chips. CPU temps stay within the specified range and I haven’t had any windows hiccups. The 9950x is expensive though, so for a reduced cost, it should be on your radar.
