Though I am trying to go full PoE, I use this camera in a space where I don’t have Ethernet (yet), and it has been an excellent addition. The 4MP resolution delivers sharp, clear images, and the pan/tilt functionality provides great coverage for monitoring a room. Night vision works well, and the two-way audio is a nice bonus. Setup was straightforward, and remote viewing is smooth. While I prefer wired connections, this WiFi camera has been rock solid and reliable. Definitely a great option for flexible indoor security!

I am very unhappy with this camera and it is very poorly designed.1) You cannot set a static IP in the camera Web UI because it keeps complaining that there are null values. I filled out every single field on the network panel. I eventually had to setup a DHCP server to get this camera to work.2) Each time the power is cycled the pan/tilt position resets. This is not very useful when you want it pointed at a specific position. You also cannot get it to aim correctly remotely and instead have to manually rotate it to point to the correct place. This is problematic when you are away and there is a power interruption.3) The wall mount system they have is ugly and it cannot be flush mounted to the wall/ceiling. Similar cameras have a flush mount system.4) The quick start guide is useless. It does not contain the required default username/password to setup this device via the WebUI. It also does not have the specifications for the rtsp steam needed to configure this camera in your video surveillance software. I had to go to google to figure this information out.

The overwhelmingly best feature of the Amcrest 4MP ProHD Indoor WiFi Camera is the ability to set-up and use it over a LAN without 3rd party intervention. The Ethernet port and HTTP access allow the user to fully access and control the camera without depending on the Cloud, third-party services, or even Internet access (so long as HTTP access is available through a local router). Many cameras now require an external account to allow set up, maintenance, and/or access for their product; and I have been burned by that paradigm when the third-party goes out of business, no longer supports the appliance, or starts charging $$$ for its use.The 4MP ProHD checks all of the boxes for my purposes with a clear image, strong night vision that sees the entire room, motion detection with advanced features (region definition, sensitivity control, etc.), and multiple storage options (card, FTP, NAS). The camera has a depth of options that allow users to customize it for their needs, like independent Ethernet and WIFI definition (I have them each on different subnets), static IP, and user-defined port assignments for HTTP, RTSP, and HTTPS.For all of the many positives, the technology appears to have some limits of which the prospective user should be aware. First, it appears that the camera should be set to allow DHCP address assignment until after the SMTP server is set up. The camera would not initially connect to any SMTP server (I tried four, each from a different provider) when a static address was assigned. However, once the SMTP server info is entered, tested, and saved under DHCP, the IP address can be set to a static value; and email subsequently works fine. Second, it appears that the camera is only compatible with the NFS NAS protocol. (No SMB, for example.) Finally, I have not yet been able to connect with my FTP or NFS NAS servers using the camera. My servers are running on Linux (Ubuntu). I suspect that the Amcrest 4MP ProHD camera is built on an architecture that is (somehow) incompatible with the Linux permission structure (but I don't know this for sure). I can work around this limitation because the RTSP access appears to work just fine.Despite these issues, the quality, features, price, and, most especially, the ability for direct and independent control make this the best camera on the market for my purposes.

Unboxing of the Amcrest IP4M-1041B 4MP ProHD Indoor WiFi Camera. The packaging is good. Everything is well protected and wrapped. The camera unit doesn’t feel cheap. It’s a nice looking camera.Everything required to install is provided.Directions are clear and precise.InstallationInstallation was quick and straight forward.Once up and running, everything works well.I haven’t tried it as of yet, but directions state it will work with Blue Iris. I have Blue Iris for all my home surveillance.I’ve used this camera to monitor the room where my dog stays during the day, while I’m at work. I was able to clearly interact with the dog using the built-in audio and microphone. Audio was clear. Panning took a little getting used to. It wasn’t as instantaneous as other cameras I have. There is no zoom, but I could zoom in well enough just by using two fingers to pinch and spread the picture. The negativeThe auto tracking doesn’t work well. If a person walks by slowly, it will follow that person. But, if they walk by and suddenly change direction, it loses them.Doesn’t integrate with the Amcrest SmartHome app. That means having to install Amcrest View Pro, another app to control the camera. I use the Amcrest SmartHome app with my Amcrest Doorbell Cameras. I should be able to use a single app to control all my Amcrest cameras.Night vision as marginal. I have other cameras, including my Amcrest doorbell camera the have better night vision. It lacks a zoom, which I’m realizing I could use. I tried the camera, focused on a smoker I use for smoked meats. With a zoom, I can zoom in closer to the smoker and see that there is smoke coming from the smoker. Without the zoom, it’s difficult to determine.Overall, it’s a nice unit that works well, provides a clear picture during daytime use and looks nice. I wouldn’t use it in an area that I need to monitor 24/7, as night vision isn’t strong enough.
