I never write reviews but this is so irritating I have to save others from this waste of a purchase. I’ve had this camera 3 years and I literally cannot even use it anymore, not because the camera doesn’t work but the app won’t because they want my money, after I made a purchase! I had to turn off app notifications because the majority of them are marketing ads you CANT turn off. And NOW the app won’t let you use it unless you watch 30 seconds of ads first!! I literally bought the camera and they’re gonna try to suck me out of subscription money or whatever they’re looking for! DO NOT BUY. I am buying multiple new cameras and will never buy from this company again, my brother says he has one which has zero ads that cost around the same price as this one, so I need to find out which one that is.

I use several of these cameras throughout my house. I bought them years ago because it allowed me to make a one-time purchase of this relatively inexpensive piece of hardware, and then use my own SD cards for recording footage. I could view the video feed live or stream clips from my SD card on my phone through their free app.Initially I had no regrets and it worked amazingly, but a little while ago they added in some ads that popped up while loading. No big deal, they were out of the way and I wasn't forced to interact with them. I don't mind seeing deals at my local Walmart or other department store. But recently they've completely changed the ads so that you are forced to watch 10 seconds of some crappy mobile game, click on a skip arrow, then close the pop-up, then finally click on your camera feed.I get that they have to pay for the mobile app and hosting somehow, but I wish they did it by improving the premium service to get more subscribers instead of making the free experience awful. I regret investing in these cameras and will be switching to another provider soon.

This camera is great! I had trouble setting it up because for the first time ever I have a wifi router that doesn't show the two bands, 5mhz and 2.4 mgz. So this 90scamera needs to be on 2.4. 5 mhz isn't supported. I finally got into my router settings and separated the two bands, one for primary (5 mhz) and one for guest (2.4) Then I connected the camera to guest. It works really well. I like that I can talk through it too! This camera is worth the price. We will see how long it lasts. If it messes up I will update my review. The picture is really clear and so far the refresh rate is faster than other cameras in this price range. I'm sure it's based on the speed of your wifi too. Mine is not fast and this still works well!

This is a good bang for your buck. Not a great bang for your buck. I’ve used Yi for 3 years now. The monthly service( although not necessary - I used free service for over a year) is affordable and fairly reliable/ however it seems every time I want to go back and view something important ( my child’s first steps) somehow the system “glitched”. I contact customer service, of course there’s nothing they can do. I have a stranger in my front and backyard with a weapon visible / but I can’t see anything but a blurry blob for his face in every single frame. Police department can do nothing with the images other than roll their eyes. I click live view to see if my babies are sleeping in their cribs soundly, well I can’t even see the babies in their cribs much less tell if they’re breathing or not. I suppose on 1080 being able to see chest rise and fall is too large an expectation, I don’t know. Most other times the cameras are fine for MINOR, LIGHT, BRIEF surveillance. Please consider something on a much higher level if you need to really micromanage a business for theft, or have any security issues at home or business, You will be disappointed. If you’re using these just for light surveillance at home / of your entrances , main common areas, tool or equipment storage or to watch your animals, you’ll most likely be pleased. The cameras last forever. They are easy to set up and maintain. The free service is fine, we only upgraded because we have 6 or so cameras and I like live view of multiple cameras at all times plus recorded cloud and SD memory. It’s worth the 9.99 monthly charge IF AND WHEN it happens to capture the images or videos I’m searching for. It glitches out and takes a while to view often, but as stated I’m not protecting a multimillion dollar museum of art, I use them for home security- in a safe secure area with more shotguns, rifles and rednecks than any other area of the US and I believe the cameras are just fine for that. If I lived in a high crime area I would consider another camera/service but for what we need they’re pretty ok. They mount easily. The motion detection is good. They run on 110 plug- so if power or WiFi is down, so are they, and we must hide cords in two rooms that we have them mounted on ceilings. You must purchase SIM card for cameras to function properly. You can share live feed or video via text or social media and can share camera view by allowing access and giving login to other family members/business partners through the YI account. You will be able to see if anyone has logged in or viewed your account. It offers additional password protection for uncommon areas such as bedrooms. That’s a nice feature. Over all good product. Yes I would purchase again. I’ve purchased several over the past few years and bought my in laws a system for their residence out of state. If another company were to offer a better product and better quality viewing for a comparable or even a bit higher price, I would change over in a heartbeat. So there’s my honest review. Hope it is helpful.

I live alone and got this to keep an eye on my cat while I was gone for a week and to make sure the pet sitter was coming. Like others have said, the night vision is great, and being able to hear sounds live from the camera is nice. It does constantly pop up to pay for their cloud, though, which is 100 dollars for a year. I certainly don't have that kind of money and wish I could turn the pop-up every time I open the camera feed off. That being said, the live camera feed is definitely good enough for what I bought the camera to do! It does catch some activity, but it seems pretty inconsistent, and also cannot differentiate between my cat and a person. It will send me "person detected" when my cat walks by in the middle of the night, which is either quite a fright when I'm not home, or maybe would cause me to disregard the message if a burglar actually did come in. Also, I think it will only record activity in 5 minute intervals or so. It will take a screenshot when it detects the activity, but without the subscription, you can only see a tiny thumbnail of the picture. Which, again, is enough to be able to tell my pet sitter came, or perhaps see my cat's tail somewhere in the frame, but no more than that. All in all, it's a great little camera that certainly will do what it needs you to do, but the more convenient options are locked behind a paywall that may not be affordable to some like myself.
