Sturdy and does what it sets out to. We don't really need something like this but even the non-venomous snakes creep me out a bit. We use it around the barn to relocate the snakes that attempt to live under it when they find/create new gaps.

I live on a farm where there are occasional sightings of rattlers. I've never seen one myself, but my brother had to dispatch one the other day. I got this so we can catch it and maybe relocate them way out into the hills. The grabber is much sturdier than any I have used before. This is not plastic, it is all metal, even the cable is good quality braided cable. It has a strong grip, and it even intersects with itself so the snake cannot squirm out of the claws. The ability to fold it up and not full length all the time is also great. It fits behind the seat of my truck and can be assembled in seconds if needed. The seam is also reinforced by sliding a sleeve over it, so it is unlikely to buckle at the joint.

These tongs are quite sturdy and I like the all metal construction. Even with the metal sleeve in place over the joint there is still some wiggle, but it won't be a problem. The cable that goes into the hole from the handle I think rubs too much on the edge when using and squeezing the handle which might become a problem over time. If the cable was attached at a point closer to the base of the handle and just made shorter to accommodate the adjustment, I think it will still function just fine without rubbing against the hole edge so much.I keep snakes as pets and have for years. Boas, pythons, colubrids, etc. and my intended use for these tongs is for feeding my large boas their thawed rats. These are at least a foot longer than my other ones, so these will give me that little bit of extra distance between them and me at feeding time, because they can get quite excited and swing far out occasionally when attempting to grab their food.I cannot however, recommend these for grabbing and handling snakes. Despite the description saying these are safe for them, they are not. The teeth on these, regardless of having been filed down, are still sharp especially long the inside edges. The tongs can also close all the way down inside each other, and you can't tell just how much pressure you're applying when clamping these on an animal. These tongs are very much capable of seriously injuring and inhumanely crushing a snake. If you are someone that doesn't want snakes where they don't belong but don't want to hurt/kill them or touch them, or are a keeper of snakes, look for a safer brand such as Gentle Giant Super Tongs that have a broad, rubber coated, flattened grip to gently handle snakes. These tongs are not much good for safely relocating snakes or other animals without hurting them. But they are good for feeding snakes, dumpster diving, reaching for items on a shelf or other high places, picking up things off the ground, etc. But please don't use these on animals you don't want to harm.3 stars for the sturdy all metal construction, minus 2 stars for being dangerous to handle animals.

The quality of the grabber is quite good, you won't be picking up 100lb snakes with this but it will work fine for removing smaller snakes as well as picking up things around the yard or house. The trigger is a bit stiff so if you have grip strength issues this may not work as well for you. My only complaint which is why I gave it for 4 stars is the folding mechanism and design isn't great; it uses a spring loaded pin to lock into place and it is actually pretty difficult to press in far enough to be able to fold the grabber. I've resorted to just leaving it unfolded and assembled as it is too cumbersome to fold it for storage.

This is a high quality, very long grabber that can be used for a large variety of things. It is a heavy duty grabber, but still manages to be pretty light weight considering it's extra length. While we do have snakes here, I actually wanted this for grabbing crabs, but I haven't had a chance to try it on crabs or snakes yet. So far I've been using it for everything around the house like picking up trash in the yard, dog toys in the house, and that kind of thing. It's easy to use, and has a secure grip that doesn't play, along with a grip lock that can be locked in multiple positions. There's never a snake around when you want one, but I have no doubt that this will work great to safely catch snakes and crabs. I like that it folds in half for easier storage. I'm quite impressed with this, and think it's a good value.

I got this with the intention of using it for grabbing hard-to-reach debris that collects in the woods and along the road. I tested it with a 1 lb weight and it easily picked it up. When I tried with a 5 lb weight, it did sag slightly in the middle and I didn't hold it for very long in case it ruined it. So, it is great for lightweight items, but I'd avoid heavier thing. Thankfully, most of the debris I find is paper or plastic bags. The package also came with nice gloves and a bag for snake collection. If we ever have a snake problem, I will be glad to have this on hand. The length of the grabber will allow me to stand at a safe distance.
