When their soil is on the dry side, they have often used some water to set things up nicely. Otherwise if the soil just had a recent watering, you will be able to proceed with the spike setup.

I was not too sure about how the water would get through, but it clearly does. I change out my glass bottles of water maybe twice a week and haven't had any of the issues of breakage that other reviewers have had. Make alwatsring my plants in planters so easy.I saved a few wine bottles (after finishing the very yummy wine first) and when my Upforesy watering spikes arrived, I was ready to go.
