This review is for the 50inch snake grabber tool. I ordered the tool to help with trash pick up since the ad indicates it can be used to pick up garbage. It doesn’t work too well for me because it is too long to serve that purpose. But I can say it is well made and quite sturdy. The mistake was mine in not taking note of the measurements. The fact that it folds up nicely is a bonus.

I thought this folding snake grabber was a brilliant idea. I could carry it in my trunk. I was somewhat disappointed when I received it.The wire seems really stressed when the pole is folded. Unfolding the pole is not difficult. However, my biggest let down was the handle size and position. It is narrow side ways but thick front to back. The lever is far from the handle so my fingers are stretched quite a bit. It was difficult to squeeze the lever hard. I am 5'11". Simply put, it was not easy to handle this grabber with one hand.

This handy workshop tool comes folded in thirds, secured by a plastic tie that needs to be cut prior to first use. The two end pieces fit onto the center section and are secured with a spring-loaded button. I suggest having a jeweler's flat blade screwdriver handy, in case the metal button moves off of center, so you can push it back in place.A nice feature is a thin metal sleeve that pushes over the connecting buttons to add strength to the body of the device.I also own a plastic version of this, but it's much shorter in length, and its jaws don't hold very firmly. Compared to this well-made "snake grabber," the plastic one is more of a toy. This one is sturdy enough to lift most anything.I thought I had installed the grabber part upside-down (i.e., rotated 180 degrees) from the trigger portion. As there were no instructions supplied, this gave me a chance to take it apart and put it back together again. It turns out, there's no wrong way to assemble it. Thus, I had it right the first time, and the claw unit was positioned correctly.Being that it's nearly winter right now, all the snakes outside are keeping warm in their burrows or dens. So I couldn't test out the snake wrangling aspect. But seeing as to how sturdy and easy to use this tool is, I'd bet that you can collect snakes all day and this tool wouldn't even break a sweat.FYI, the trigger unit and the clamping jaws at the other end are made of steel. The tubular body appears to be stainless steel. Aside from catching snakes, you can put a strong magnet at the jaws end and use it to retrieve a lost nut, bolt, washer, or other metal item.If I was given this as a gift for my birthday or Father's Day, I'd consider it a thoughtful and useful addition to my workshop. Every once in a while, something falls behind a shelving unit, or some other place where it is awkward to retrieve it. With the added reach of this "snake grabber" tool, I can retire my plastic version and be ready for the next game of "can you retrieve me."

I wanted to have this snake grabber tool, due to the fact that it folds down so small so as to be easily transported, taking up almost no room. It arrives broken down into its smallest size, and I appreciate that. Fitting it together is easily achieved and is entirely intuitive at a glance.I have never owned one of these, however when I am camping where there are poisonous snakes, I feel that this will be an excellent tool to have along, given some prior experiences. In the moment of extreme need, looking around frantically for a proper stick to try to lift and carry an undulating snake without killing it, when it is known to be poisonous, is not an endeavor that I enjoy. It is currently winter where I am, so there are no snakes around me now. In the meantime, I have already employed this to pick up 2 pieces of litter that were thrown onto my yard on the day of garbage collection. The litter had somehow blown atop a 3 foot snow bank, that I did not want to wade into, and this 'reacher,' was long enough to enable me to reach for the two pieces of litter, without the need of wading into soft, hip deep snow to retrieve it. An entirely legitimate, albeit alternative use that broadens the viability for the reacher. I rather like that, as I am always open to exploring alternative uses for things that make its useability a bit broader than the originally intended use that one would initially assume. Retrieving unreachable litter is certainly one of those. The snake reacher tool seems quite well constructed. While it is of durable metal, It is an excellent balance of strength, while still maintaining sufficient lightness to enable one to wield and manipulate it into position rather quickly, if needed.Additionally, and perhaps as important as any other feature, is that the reacher is long enough to enable one to maintain a safe distance from poisonous snakes. The hand operated grip seems rather effortless to activate and employ, and yet, it is rather easy to maintain a solid hold on a poisonous snake, without actually harming it. That is a definite positive.I try to minimize my environmental impact lately, having a raised consciousness to many of the negative elements that humanity is too often causing in the environment, particularly as it relates to nature and wildlife. That being a priority, I appreciate this reacher enabling me to easily remove potentially dangerous snakes without harming them. This is an excellent tool that has sufficient reach, sufficient strength, and the break-down feature is most welcome in transporting it. All in all, this seems like an excellent and well-made device that makes it a viable tool to add to one's arsenal in preventing potential snake mishaps. For all of these reasons, I highly recommend this well-made snake grabber tool.
