This thing never powered up once, it’s not worth the money to send it back and not worth your time to purchase it. Spend a little more money on Renogy, tried tested and true with good customer service.

The case didn't line up with the terminals for the wireing. I couldn't get the screw driver in the holes to install the wires because the electronic panel was off. I was able to open it up to realign them. The terminals themselves are very low quality and do not make a good connection. This will lead to voltage problems down the line as it ages due to corrosion. You may be able to help this by adding so an anti oxidation compound to the wire before installing them. While this unit is supposed to be able to handel 30 amps, the terminals will not be able to handel the wire size for this amprage. I'm not useing any thing near the much so that is not a problem for my application. The unit is not weather proof, so if your system is outside it must be installed in a weather proof box. It gets hot, so make sure you have ventilation for the box. I am using this as part of a solar battery back up system for a chicken door, so the whole thing will be incased.

Set up with 100w solar panel to maintain batteries inside remote barn. First setup used wire too small and the 14.4V upper limit was hit quickly and unit dropped to float voltage. Replaced 24ga with 12 ga and it now works great. Instructions are easy and unit is easy to read. Contacts are small and 12 ga wire fills them up. Would not work with any wire larger than 8 ga. Be sure to look at current and voltage drop in your conductors when planing system . Distance between controller and batteries is a major factor on voltage at load. I am using power cords for outdoor sprinkler/lighting systems with 3” alligator clips. Spare battery, under the controller, is used as constant load while leads are moved between tractors and other equipment in barn. Controller reacts to line voltage and not load so all the batteries , in parallel, get similar voltage that drops at battery that is drawing most current. Having all the batteries charged helps them when cold weather sets in.

Ordered this to do a small solar panel project, its fairly simple and isn't anything overly flashy but it works well for my system. Setting this up is pretty easy for someone looking to start up a project cheaply or for those just looking to get something simple to manage their system. I have mine out of the elements and any direct sunlight, so far its worked great and I'd imagine as long as you aren't trying to do anything major it will last as long as I need it to.
