I unboxed the fence energizer today and read through the instructions to familiarize myself with operation, handling, and safety precautions. There are a half-dozen warning signs included to post around the fence line to warn of shock hazard. While it is intended to use solar power to recharge the batteries, there is a charging port with a waterproof plug in the bottom to manually charge with the included USB cable. The front of the box has a live wire connector in red and a ground connector in black, and color-coded wires are included for hookup. The red will attach to the fence line. The black needs to be connected to a ground rod or rods. Instructs suggest 1-meter ground rod inserted deep into the ground where there is moisture content. A red knob needs a twist to activate the connected system and can be disarmed by pressing the knob in. A red LED flashes to let you know when the system is electrified.The shocks send a jolt that degrades quickly when the activated line is touched. It's enough to grab attention without electrocuting an animal. For me, this is part of an integrated approach to pest control in my garden with other deterrents and traps. However, I want to get away from bait stations and snap traps because it's not about a body count for me. I just want to discourage rodents from feeding in my garden and hope they decide there are other locations to forage instead.A couple of concerns for me are the overall quality. There is a spindly plastic handle and black plastic case that feels cheap. This thing needs to be out in the sun during the day to recharge, and I am concerned that UV rays will degrade the plastic over time and cause it to become brittle and break. Also, the frames around the solar panels are the same plastic and are hinged with a ratcheting action to set each at an optimal angle to caught the sun. The bottom-most panel either lies horizontal or at the highest pre-set angle stop. When trying to use the other preset stops in-between highest and flat angles, the panel simply falls to the flat horizontal position. The other panel is better at staying in place at any of its present angle stops. I have cheap water fountain sprayer that has a nicer solar panel that uses an aluminum frame and a glass covering.

I’m absolutely thrilled with this solar-powered electric fence charger! The charger is lightweight, portable, and easy to install. With the added benefit of being corrosion-resistant, I know this system is built to last. I also appreciate the maintenance tips provided – ensuring everything stays in top shape is important for long-term use.I can’t wait to see the look on those raccoons' faces when they try to get into my pond again! The best part is that I can monitor them on camera, and I’m confident this fence will send them running without causing harm. It’s time for some law and order around here, and I’m finally feeling secure knowing my pond creatures are safe from those lawless bandits.Highly recommend this product for anyone dealing with unwanted animals causing trouble in your yard – it works, it’s easy to install, and it’s incredibly reliable!

Nice little item.Where I live, we have tons of deer, and our HOA does not permit fenced yards over 730sq ft. So... my wifes garden that is fenced in, (but not so tall as to keep an athletic deer out), and our tiny cherry trees - with an even shorter fence. Well, I already have an old electric fence charger for the garden, but needed one for the cherry trees. This little guy should work perfectly.I was expecting something much larger, like a car/truck sized battery, with equivalent sized solar panels, like I'm used to seeing back home on the farm. Not so, this unit is, well, best described as the battery is appr. about twice the size of a motorcycle battery. The solar panels are about the same size.Note: this does not come with any electric fence wiring - this you'd have to get from Amazon, or, your local big box hardware store or farm supply. Otherwise, this will work great!
