I use it to hold the anchor line for my kayak. Seems to work fine.

Nice reel, well built. For me the handle is a bit small when wearing gloves in the Pacific NW.

Honestly, I think it works great and is a great deal for the money. My wreck instructor is not so enamoured. I'll end up buying one of their expensive reels. Question the need for that..This reel is a little squeaky and stiff to reel up out of the box. Loosening the screw a bit did help but then, maybe that is what the instructors are worried about? Who knows..

I used this reel several times at 85ft depth off of Daytona Beach, lobster and spear fishing. It worked fine to retrieve my buoy as I ascended. Its small enough were it didn't get in my way while underwater, yet was simple to operate with game bag, spear and lobster snare attached to my BCD. Most other reels i looked at were twice the price. This works fine for me and my needs.

I bought this after seeing someone else suggest it for a kayak anchoring system. This works great and is just what I needed to start actually using my anchor. All the other diy systems that I built where good, but just left it so that it was just annoying enough that I would not use it. Once I used this setup one time, I was all about it and wanted to change my spot just to reel this up and then drop it down again. I use the original rope that came on it and it works great. If you are looking for a better solution to your anchoring setup...give this a try, plus it is pretty cheap.

This is a nifty reel that I use for my kayak anchor. I got the idea on youtube. I attached this reel to a small buoy float and my anchor to the reel line work awesome and keep everything nice and neat on my kayak. What i like about this setup is if I get into trouble I can release the line from my kayak and the buoy float marks where my anchor is and can go back and get it without losing my reel and anchor.

Unless you keep pressure on the line this will tangle inside the mechanism, sort of like what might happen to a fishing reel. I've spent some minutes untangling that I should have spent exploring, and at least once I considered just cutting the line. This said, the product has enough functionality that I use it often towing a dive float (currently a float tube).
