About this item

  • Features the red star design for a custom look
  • Five blade design with 2-1/4" projected width
  • Maximum fan speed rating of 10,000
  • Low engine drag at high rpms for better performance

The Flex-a-lite flex fan is designed to provide maximum air flow at low rpm and the least amount of engine loading at high rpm. Less resistance at highway speeds equals more horsepower and better gas mileage. Blades are made of stainless steel for durability. Fan edges are sharp; be sure and use gloves when working with the flex fan for added safety. This fan must also be used with a fan shroud.

Advertised to fit my 79 CJ7 Jeep with 4.2L. I needed 1-1/16" spacer to clear my power steering pump. Finally solved my overheating problem on the highway.

This product really works! It would receive 5 stars if it was not that it did not fit, and I had to cut the blades - actually, I hacked the blades because all I had was $5 dollar shears.Make sure to measure your shroud and buy the fan that fits. The manufacturer suggests a one inch clearance from the blade to the shroud. DO NOT rely on 'This Fits Your Vehicle' message. My 61 Tbird Shroud is just over 20 inches and this one measured 19 1/4 inches. For some reason, after closing up the shroud, the fan was clipping the bottom shroud bolt. Tapping it a little did not make a difference - since it was 10 pm, I had no choice but to cut the fan blades to fit. In hindsight, I would have measured and then purchased, but I trusted amazon garage that this fan fit. Also, it is not an easy install in the sense that it is very tight space. The recommended setback from the radiator is one inch...I don't know too many men that have hands that can turn bolts within those parameters - AND what makes it even more desperate is that spacer's bolt holes are slotted - AAAAAAARRRGGGHHH! To find the holes on the pulley requires lots of luck and patience - take your time. I did have a ratchet wrench, I STRONGLY suggest it - and NOTE, the bolts were 1/2 inch, different from stock that are 3/8 inch. So purchasing ratchet in advance would have been a mistake for me.I had taken the suggestion of a TBird club member to use a 16 inch electric fan - HORRIBLE idea!!! I am lucky that I did not blow a head gasket - although I did blow a hose. I was heating upward beyond 220 degrees! Frightful, Scary traffic Florida driving. The temperature gauge was always 3/4 past heat. A 35 year TBird mechanic suggested the Flex fan - and Voi-la!!! it works like a charm - infact, it may be running too cool now. I did install a 106 deg thermostat in my search for an answer to the overheating - so that me be the cause along with this superior cooling fan.Conclusion:1. Check your shroud size2. Plan ahead, and get the ratchet wrench - a must3. Be patient - it may be easier to remove the radiator for the install - my TBird has transmission lines going to the radiator, so it was too messy for that option.4. Remember, there are 4 bolts, and they are long, you can't do one and then load the others, you need to load them all at the same time - you will see what I mean.5. Only Flex-a-lite spacer is guaranteed - only use theirs or you lose their warranty.Even in traffic, the Mr. Gasket Thermocap is showing 145-150 deg - WOW!Good luck!!! and keep COOL!
