I have 9 cats. Two used to be indoor/outdoor cats, but a stray showed up on my neighborhood last year and (understandably) decided that my house MUST be the local cat hotel. He's constantly in my yard, and at sunrise and sunset, he would jump up into my kitchen window. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. SUNRISE AND SUNSET, GUARANTEED THIS CAT WOULD BE IN MY WINDOW. And at least SOME of my nine cats would be incredibly irritated by this intruder on the other side of the glass. I didn't open my kitchen window ONCE ALL summer, despite not having air conditioning. Because EVERY SINGLE DAY at sunrise (5:15 in the summer!!!) he'd be on the outside of the window, and a few of my cats would be on the inside, screaming like banshees. I never even knew that cats could make noises like my cats would make... Every day. So when I saw these, I jumped on them. My dad was coming over that weekend, so I told him what I'd gotten and asked him to bring a drill that could drill into the brick on the outside of my windowsill. He did, but he also brought similar spikes he'd gotten to keep birds away. But the spikes he brought were metal! I said, look, I hate that cat, but I'm not trying to hurt him. That was exactly why I'd picked these, because they're plastic. Uncomfortable, yes, but they wouldn't injure the poor thing, as much as I hate the stupid cat.So my dad put a few screws into the brick, I put these plastic spikes on the windowsill, and I've been able to sleep in every day since. It's been AMAZING. The cat is still out there, but he's not in my window. My cats are screaming MUCH less. It's peaceful and quiet once again. And I have tons left over. I may use some in my kitchen until my cats learn to stay off the counter. They came with clear sticky tabs that will be perfect for the kitchen counter. They also came with snaps so you can snap multiple sheets together without having to sacrifice some of the spikes to overlap them.Just the peace and quiet in the mornings has been worth every penny and I have tons of them to last probably the rest of my life. Super effective at keeping nuisance animals away, and my neighbors don't even see them on the window, so they're great. If only I could put them around my yard so my cats could go back outside again... They have no issues beating each other up, so I'm not sure why they're so afraid of this guy. But I'll take my quiet mornings as a huge win!!

Concept is good idea. I used them around Christmas tree to keep my two cats off the tree. They didn’t like the pointy ends so it worked as it should that way. I could not lock them together because of the angles I was placing them down. Once they knew that they could move them then it was game over. I had to keep placing them back around the tree. Price was ok.

THESE ARE SHARP! Did a scrape test along my skin and it left scratch marks, if your pet were to step on this, they may get hurt

Spikes worked for about a week. Then they figured out how to move them around to do whatever they want.

We've been using scat mats like these on one of our couches for about three years (different vendor, identical product). I see words like "flimsy" in other reviews, and I suppose that description is at least partially accurate: the plastic is thin, but the "spikes" are sturdy due to their cone shape and work exactly as intended as deterrents, not impalers -- the spikes will crush if enough weight/force is applied. Our cat met one of these while sneaking along the top of the couch and accidentally sliding down to the seat below (where we had the mat), she quickly scurried away without injury (we checked her) and the mat survived unscathed, so there is some durability there. The cat returned to her intended spot on the top of the couch within a couple of minutes, so the experience was not traumatic. On the other hand, somebody later threw a heavy backpack onto the seat and some of the spikes collapsed; this leads me to believe that if a person (or large animal) carelessly plops down onto a seat with these on, they will likely experience discomfort, but not an injury.I would describe the spikes as "pointy," not "sharp;" I can apply substantial pressure to a single spike with one finger, or even pressure to several spikes with my entire palm without breaking the skin, so I am not concerned with injury to humans or animals. Our cats inspected the mats when we first installed them by sniffing and feeling them with their paws, and my guess is that they deemed them uncomfortable rather than dangerous. Other than the one mishap above, they have stayed away from the couch seats; we get less fur on our backsides, and they still get to nap on the couch tops all day long.We use the mats individually (two or three mats per seat), which makes them more manageable when taking them off to use the couch; I recommend this method for frequently-used seats, and only joining multiple mats with the supplied materials for use on areas where only infrequent removal will be needed. There are plenty of deterrent options out there, but in our experience, these mats have proved to be the most effective and are perfectly safe. If you can get past their scary look (and are willing to give your pets some credit), I am glad to recommend them.
