From the Manufacturer
Polaris' best in-ground automatic pool cleaner for vinyl or fiberglass surfaces, the Polaris 165 operates with the pump and filtration systems normally found on these pools, and installs in just minutes. Powered by the pressure of clean water returning to the pool, the 165 uses a patented jet sweep assembly that blows water against the pool wall to loosen debris in hard-to-reach places even if the pool has an uneven bottom. Its easy-to-remove filter bag captures debris before it reaches your pump basket or filter. Vacuums the bottom and sweeps the side in three hours or less, circulating clean filtered water throughout your pool while cleaning.

Within months of having the vac-sweep it stopped going back and forth and would only go in circles, which caused it to tangle itself up. Water shoots from a front jet and then a rear jet to move the vac around the pool; however, the ball within the jet that allow opening and closing of the jets sticks within the jets and will only allow the vac to go in one direction. Apparently this is a common issue with these vac-sweeps - when I called customer service (warranty) they knew right away what the problem was and sent a replacement part. We replaced the part, but it did not fix the problem. It is basically worthless and is less than a year old.

Vacuums pretty well, just have to work at adjusting the water flow and if you get too much it flips over and water goes everywhere draining your pool. I have it adjusted but not comfortable going off and leaving it.

This cleaner performs very well. I have used sever other types gliders and mechanical, this cleaner performs just as good. Doesn't get stuck and doesn't shoot water out of the pool. I have read about other people having problems. None here. My system has a designated discharge for the pool cleaner, with a 2hp motor. I keep the discharge set at 20 psi. Tried lower, but unit didn't work. I also keep mine in the pool 365 days a year, It's Texas, dont need to close the pool. So other people's complaints may be valid with their system, but works great with mine.

I had previously tried a suction-side cleaner that didn't work so well due to inadequate suction, so I thought I'd try a pressure-side cleaner. The Polaris 165 is fantastic. I have a 25,000 gallon pool that is L-shaped with a deep end and shallow end; the pool gets no shade and fills with leaves in the fall; and this cleaner keeps the leaves out and circulates the water so that the filter works more effectively. In short, it saves me a lot of time and effort and cleans the pool better than I could manually. I leave it in the pool unless there are a lot of swimmers, in which case I take it out for a while. It took some trial and error to get the hoses set to the right length for my pool, but after about three tries I have it set properly, and it will clean the entire pool well. It does occasionally get stuck on one of the ladders and I will have to reach in to dislodge it. Also, once in a great while, the bottom unit will loop around and briefly spray water out of the pool. I suppose it might surprise you and get you wet if you're standing near the pool when that happens, but hey, don't you expect to possibly get wet when you're near the pool? There is a little screen in the hose at the end that connects to the pool jet; I had trouble with that screen filling with small debris, so I removed it. As long as the debris is small enough to not block the jets within the Polaris itself, it will not cause a problem. If larger debris does get stuck, it can be taken apart to clean it. This thing has basically only one internal moving part and does not look like it should break down easily. The thing is fun to watch, too. We named ours Harold. He's lower maintenance than our dogs.

Pros:- Worked fairly effectively for two months.- Attractive looking.Cons:- Stopped working after two months. It is suppose to change directions but it just gets stuck in one spot and does not back up. The manual says to take it apart and remove any debris that might be clogging it so I opened it up but nothing was clogging it, just stopped working.-Plastic is cheap and a piece broke off.-Hose rubbed itself raw and eventually sprung a leak.-Minor damage to my pool.
