Works as claimed. Only drawback is it doesn’t have a button for on and off. It will start automatically once plugged in

I've been getting great results culturing yogurt and kefir with this simple, elegant appliance. Because it's heating element is of such low power, the unit is designed with continuous full power output, without need for temperature control components. This simplicity ensures maximum reliability. The temperature of the contents rises to the point where heat input eventually equals heat losses to the appliance's ambient environment. I've measured the contents to plateau at 100-105 degF, depedending on the ambient room temperature. This is the optimum temp range for making kefir and Greek yogurt. And it's 1 quart capacity is a convenient size batch for 4-8 fl oz daily consumption.I would rate it 5 stars instead of 4, if it had a black plastic cover instead of its currently semi-clear cover. The reason why, is that if this unit is placed near a window, there will be some undesirable exposure of the culture to UV rays. I'ts well known that the UV component, of sunlight is bactericidal. I rectified this only design flaw by inverting a restaurant take-out container over the appliance in order to function as a UV shield. See the attached photo. Note also that I also place the entire appliance inside another larger take-out container. This is necessary only for high viscosity culturing such as in Greek yogurt, to guard against potential overflow due to expansion ("rise") caused by fermentation gas. Kefir viscosity is much lower, so there's no need to place anything beneath the appliance to prevent a mess.

Don't waste your money on this cheapo machine that doesn't work. I've had it on now for a day and a half using starter yoghurt, yet still all I have is warm milk. Also shortly after turning the machine on the name plate for it by on-light fell off. Also note that no instructions came with it. If you are smart you'll spend your money on something that actually works.
