Let me start by saying that I am VERY NEW to this hobby... so I may have done something wrong or have mis-managed expectations.I have a skein of yarn that I could not get to center pull, so I thought this would be the answer. Unfortunately, as you can see in the picture, the yarn worked it's way under the device. We had to back it out and that was a big mess. Only about 1/2 the skein would "cake" before it started rolling over the edge. The winder assebled easily and attached to the edge of my counter ok, however when we were winding, there was a loud, occasional *POP* coming from within the winder. Like maybe it was slipping a gear? I would have expected a little better quality for the price.I will likely use this to keep my end-of-project partial skeins tidy, but not so much for the skeins that refuse to center pull.

Got this to wind up some yarn to have it for easier use vs the tightly-bound bundles they come in. I tested it out yesterday and it was easy to set up, and even easier to use. I'm happy and the yarn wound up perfectly. Tight enough to not fall apart, but easy to unwind for use.

I've been wanting to get a yarn winder for quite some time, and when the chance to review this one came up, I jumped at it. As a fiber artist, I've realized just how essential a yarn winder can be, especially for knitting and crocheting projects. Early in my crafting journey, I made the mistake of working directly from a store-bought skein, which led to scrapping an almost completed project. I definitely didn't want to face that frustration again. This yarn winder is user-friendly, although it took me a few attempts to find the right tension and speed. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to transform 236 yards (5 oz) of Medium (4) yarn into three neat smaller skeins. It’s been a game-changer for my crafting experience!

This works well, easy to use, but it is for smaller skeins. I converted one skein of Red Heart yarn, and I ended up with 3 balls, but it was quick and easy. You do have to add a bit more tension to the yarn coming from your skein (just hold it slightly with your fingers), otherwise it will be too loosely wound. Also I do wish the clamp was made for even wider table surfaces, because it did not fit my dining table -- so instead I had to set it up on the kitchen counter, and even that was just barely thin enough (its a standard counter). Also one nifty thing I discovered was that a the cardboard tube from a toilet paper roll does fit over the winder "arm" thing (not sure what you call it), and so you can actually make your yarn balls a little bit larger if you use that (but just tape it to the base).

This yarn winder worked well as long as I used a steady hand, and turned the knob at a medium or slow speed. When I wound quickly, the yarn didn't wind well. It looked messy. I rewound the yarn at a slower pace, and it worked better.I used this with sock yarn, fingering weight. My skein was 100 grams. I don't believe it could have handled more than this amount.I am happy with it.

This winds small to medium skeins yarn quite well. Larger skeins will begin winding below the saucer. The thread guide will prevent easy use for extra thick yarns, but you can still use this to wind thicker yarns by partially using the guide along with your hand. Be sure to rotate the thread guide all the way out or it will limit the maximum size of the spool of yarn. I wouldn't mind if the spindle was a little thinner, allowing for more yarn per spool and tighter spools.Assembly: the spindle is easily attached to the saucer. The wire clamp support has a thumb screw that is removed before feeding the wire into the base of the winder and then used to secure the clamp support in place.Mounting: this will work with most tables where the tabletop extends from the sides or supports of the table. Particularly thick tables won't work. There are tiny rubber feet on the base and a larger rubber on the clamp. Unfortunately, the feet on the base barely extend past the thumbscrew, and when clamped down securely, the thumbscrew might press into the table, causing a lasting impression. Be careful using this with soft wood tables.Use: with the yarn holder grooves on the top of the spindle, getting the first couple winds going isn't too difficult. From there the winding is easy as long as your source yarn feeds cleanly. Feeding the last bit of yarn under the starting bit of yarn on the top of the spindle makes it easy to finish the spool and keep the start end accessible for use later. After sliding the spool off the spindle, massaging the spool a bit gets the center to close and ready for storage or use. This is a good value, and for the value, the main sacrifices are the noise from winding and the base wobbles a bit during winding no matter how hard you tighten the wing nut holding the clamp on the bottom of the table .
