These smoke detectors came well-packaged and were easy to install and test.A couple of things to note:- These do not connect to the X-Sense hub. They are interconnected through the wiring in your home (the red wire). If you want to receive notifications for these, you'll need to buy one of the X-Sense listeners. I have all of my hard-wired smoke detectors interconnected and then a single listener next to one.- The status LED (green when receiving AC power) is quite bright. I used a few layers of white electrical tape to dim the light in our bedrooms but still allow us to see the status light.

This product looks sleek and modern and have a good review (I don't know why) and reasonable price. I didn't think too much and bought a full pack of 6 to cover very room in my house.Little did I know, the first day I installed it, my wife was telling me that I need cover the bright light in the bedroom. Because it was really bright, and doesn't turn off in the standby mode. Then I did.The 2nd day, while we were doing nothing, it went off. Beep beep beep beep, quick short burst, then I heard my wife yelling (THE BABY IS SLEEPING, TURN IT OFF!!!) I panicked, didn't know what to do. Stood like a fool, letting the beeps blasting my ears while I looked up into the ceiling, puzzling. As I was thinking, another set of 4 beeps, then I thought maybe something was wrong, I hurried my wife and woke up my baby to move outside. As my wife covering my babies ear trying to run outside like a she was protecting him through a hallway of fire, another set of 4 beeps went off, blasting right down to her and my baby's ears (if that 85 decible blast of beeps had damaged my babies ear, I will never forgive myself)After a few minutes, I went back to investigate, and I found nothing, I looked at the user manual, I learned that there is a table of light and sound patterns to determine what's going on, and which room it is emitting from.I calmed myself and my wife, that might be a false alarm and now I have learned all 16 combinations of sound and light patterns, we should be good.Well, I was fool again. The very next day, almost the same thing happened, except this time, I was standing under one of the alarms looking like a bigger fool, and my wife yelled at me louder. How did the team design this think that anyone would remember all those combinations in a time of emergency? And why? Why false alarm twice in 2 days?I had enough, so I wrote this product review and hope that other husbands don't repeat my mistakes, unless you really want your wife and kids to hate you for blasting ear deafening alarms onto them.

QUITE EXPENSIVE, but, really like the combined smoke/carbon detection.Has a nice look to it. Wish they had a square one to match my flush mount lights. Can't say easy to install as there was a problem with one of the sensors that would not turn off without turning off the breaker. But, eventually without the help of the manufacturer we figured out the wiring problem for that one. We tried to call the manufacturer for help the day we had the electrician on site. These were the very last items to install. But the manufacturer insisted we wait several days for a response. Time was of the essence when you have to pay more money to come back another day. If you can get them to come back. So it was trouble and cost more money, but has been working ever sense -a couple months.

I ordered a pack of five of these smoke detectors for my two store home. Enough to have one in each bedroom, one in the upstairs hallway, and one just outside the kitchen on the ground floor. They come with the detector, a mounting plate, hardware to mount, and instructions for mounting. I honestly didn't read the instructions for mounting, but I did look at them for activation information (will cover shortly). The mounting plate attaches to walls with three (3) screws, and there are gypsum board anchors that are in the box, but I did not use. The mounting plate can be mounted on a vertical or horizontal surface (I mounted them vertically).Install was fairly easy and took only a few minutes each. I only used a cordless drill with a drill bit, and phillips-head screwdriver. If you decide to use the gypsum board anchors, you may need a small hammer to tap them into place. Once the plate is mounted you simply put the detector in place and rotate and lock into place. It is important to note that you should not fit the detector onto the plate until you are ready to install, as it will activate the 10-year battery the first time you mount them together.Once installed, there is a small bar on the front of the detector that flashed about once per minute as a visual indication that the unit is functional. The light is bright enough to be seen in the daytime, but not so bring that it is intrusive at night. Even in a pitch black room, it really isn't noticeable unless you are looking in the direction of the detector. For people that are especially bothered by the light, it appears that you could just put a small piece of tape or paper over it to prevent it from being seen on a regular basis. There is a test / silence button on the front that I used to test the device once installed to ensure that they were working. As with most other detectors that I have had experience with, a short press yields an very loud high pitched noise that lasts a few seconds and then shuts off. I would say it is definitely loud enough to wake a sleeping person at night. The only things I noticed that would be helpful for the manufacturer to include would be a install date sticker that could be placed on the device so that you would know when the 10 years was coming to an end. I can imagine that after 10 years, it would be difficulty to remember exactly when you installed them. I fixed this be using a label maker to create my own sticker. On the plus side, these are zero maintenance, do not have any batteries to change, and should not require any interventions from me until I replace them in 10 years, which happens to be the useful life span of the detector itself. Currently it is recommended that smoke detectors be replaced every 10 years. Since installing them a couple of months I have not had any issues with them at all.The cost per unit seems very reasonable at the time of purchase, and I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.
