  • Application: Taps and dies are metal threading tools used to cut and restore internal and external threads precisely. A tap is used to form the female component of the assembly, as in the case of a nut or socket, a die is used on the male component, as in a screw or bolt. In other words, a Tap is used to create the internal threads in a hole for use with a threaded fastener and a die is used to make or repair external threading on a round rod, screw, or bolt.
  • Thread Pitch Gauge: Thread pitch gauges are used as a reference tool in determining the pitch of a thread that is on a screw or in a tapped hole. This tool is not used as a precision measuring instrument, rather it allows the user to determine the profile of the given thread and quickly categorize the thread by shape and pitch.
  • T Handle Tap Wrench: T Handles hold the end of a tap to provide extra leverage for hand tapping making them very useful for confined spaces or where extra reach or leverage is required. T Handle Tap wrenches may also be used with screw extractors, drills, and other tools.
  • Material: Taps and dies are used to cut metals and are typically made of high-speed steel or hardened carbon steel, with the former is much more robust and used for a broader range of material. These cutting materials are suitable for threading steel, cast steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, softwood, and hardwood.

This is a great set for any mechanical repair shop SAE and metric sizes including some larger sizes over 12mm & 1/2" not found in other sets. My only complaint is that they stopped making it in a durable metal case box. It now comes in a plastic blow-molded case. Not nearly as durable for long term use in a busy repair shop.
