This tool easily cuts PVC tubing. It has a good ratcheting mechanism and is super sharp. I think it'll last a long time for home use, and I recommend it.

This seems to be one of the only products capable of cutting the large diameter plastic drain pipe that is as inexpensive as it is. It seems to be solid enough for occasional household usage levels. The only thing I hate about this one is that the little hook that holds the handles together is just an unsecured hook. It doesn’t snap shut. So every time you pick it up just to move it the handles come open after you put it down. This is irritating, and not ideal for safety, but doesn’t bother me that much for something I don’t use much. If I were a plumber using it all day it would probably drive me nuts. But i don’t think this is really suitable for daily commercial “all day every day” use anyway. For that you’d want a much more expensive heavy duty cutter made of solid steel laminate or something.

I think the issue is that the blade is flat. My other cutters for smaller PVC pipes have an angled blade with a sharp point that contacts the pipe before the rest of the blade. With the flat blade it crushes the pipe before cutting it enough and eventually breaks it. I tried it several times on 2 inch and 1.5 inch PVC pipe and it broke both types. It might be that the blade wasn’t sharp enough but it seemed very sharp and cut a piece of paper. Either way, it did not work for PVC so it was useless to me. Not worth buying if you want to cut PVC.

Very well worth buying. Easy to use, the color helps track them in our busy work enviornment. They are comfortable in the hand and very durable.

Working with PVC isn’t terribly difficult if you cut pipe cleanly and square. Having a nice ratcheting cutter like this makes it simple and very repeatable with making uniform cuts. This is important so joints glue together well without leaving gaps inside to collect deposits (drain) or allow leaks to form. Don’t spend more money than this unless you do this work multiple times a day as a professional. This is good quality for the homeowner that does a few projects per year or less.

Built a kayak rack from PVC pipes. I've never done this before. Every cut was just as I expected, smooth and straight. After cutting 11, 10'PVC pipes, it still cut, but each cut got harder and the blade became less sharp. For me, did the job, made it easy and I'm very happy with the results! Bigger jobs you better get replacement blades or learn to sharpen them.
