Look, I suppose that *technically* this is a microscope in that will 'make little things big.' If you're into collecting coins and stamps, or if you work on circuits, this will work for you. It's the dead of winter, so insects are hard to come by, and I can't say whether or not it's good at viewing the fine features of insect anatomy. But I bet it's pretty good for that. However, if by microscope you mean something that will let you see cell structure in a plant or a skin sample, I don't think so.Of course, and unlike a lot of companies selling similar products, I don't think Jiusion ever advertised this product as any more than that. You get what you pay for. If you want to do something more sophisticated or want to use this for aesthetically-pleasing photomicrography, I'd recommend that you take that money and put it toward a more sophisticated product. But, that said, this product has a lot going for it, including its price, its fairly easy connectivity to smartphones via a direct wi-fi connectoin or to a pc/mac with a usb cable, its bright and adjustable LED lights, its portability, pretty decent resolution. The advertised 4-hour battery life has got to be a plus if you want to take it for wilderness hikes or whatever. Plus, it's got this little clear plastic dome separating the camera from the table surface. And that dome has a cap for when you're traveling with it. I don't know if this is a feature, but I imagine that you could put a live insect in there and take pictures and video of it.Although it's simple for an adult to use, I wouldn't get this for a child unless they had their own smart phone and were ~13 years or older. Otherwise, a toy that you thought would entertain the kiddies for hours on end probably will give you a whole lot of "I can't make it work, Mommy/Daddy, can you fix it for me?" There are children's digital microscopes which come with an onboard screen.

The stage on this product is bright aluminum. When using it with a digital microscope with its own built-in LED lights, the stage scatters light back at the microscope lens. The photos are washed out. This can be easily fixed by putting black paper or painting, flat black on the stage. Then the results are excellent.

This is actually a very good product for the price. The zoom is intense. Be aware that higher zoom levels will be difficult to see if holding the microscope by hand. There also is no option to auto focus or focus in any way so when you are changing the zoom levels you need to make sure that you are adjusting the distance at which you are holding the microscope.Otherwise the quality was good and I thought this was easy to use and definitely worth how much I paid for it.

USB 'microscopes' are very handy things to have for taking a look at small things. But the terrible stands they all come with (as seen in one of my pics with the big red X) just cripple the scopes. They need to be held perfectly still, and at a perfect distance for a specific zoom. If your scope wobbles, the stand doesn't grip the scope well, or is so short you can't get the scope a decent distance from the subject then you're not getting good pictures. This stand is cheap and solid enough - it even fits the very fat Bysameyee 4K scope I bought, seen in the second picture. You just stick the scope in there, use the two screws around the ring to hold it, then use the screw on the left to loosen the grip on the left column, set the height where you need it, gently tighten the screw, and you're done! This stand goes high enough you can get most things you'll want to take a look at underneath the scope. You might think it's bad that the only axis is vertical, but it's not - all these scopes need the bottom of the scope to be perpendicular to the subject, so tilting is worse than useless. If somehow you need to use the scope on something vertical or tilted, well, you'll have to go back to the crappy old stand. Or you could also get a stand that works like an extensible light stand and gives you six degrees of freedom, but be warned those vibrate a lot and change your distance while rotating the zoom collar, which is also bad for your images. Tradeoffs! But for the price this does exactly what I need.It even comes with a little clamshell zipper case - it will only hold the stand and scope if you break the base down (unscrew the base), but it's certainly better than the box the scope came in.

I bought this to go with my cheap USB microscope that came with a plastic stand. You know the type I'm talking about - the one that would be a decent microscope if it had a decent stand. Anyway, this new stand is fantastic! The design is awesome. I'm especially impressed by the build quality. It's all aluminum, and stays where you put it. I grips the microscope tightly but won't scar the case, because the thumbscrews have rubber tips on them. I can adjust the focus without moving the field of view now, which is something I was never able to do with the original stand.I'm not sure about the fancy case. It's a very nice case, also high quality, but you have to disassemble the stand to use it. If I were traveling with my microscope, I might.I'm surprised you can get such a useful and high-quality device for only 20 bucks. Good job, guys!
